.CO.ID, JAKARTA— Fishermen from Pantai Bahagia Village, Muara Gembong Bekasi, now have new tools to more effectively locate fish, making it easier to catch fish or schools of fish in the sea. This is expected to increase fish catch production.
Fish finderAI-based technology that helps fishermen find fishing spots quickly and accurately.
The activity organized by Mercu Buana University Jakarta took place thanks to funding support from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology through a community-based empowerment grant scheme.
The Head of the Community Service Team for the Faculty of Economics and Business, Mercu Buana University Jakarta, Dr. Yudhi Herliansyah, explained that this technology is not just a tool, but also opens up opportunities for increased income and welfare for fishing families.
“Withfish finder,“fishermen’s work becomes more efficient and effective, so that catches increase without increasing labor or fuel,” he said in his statement in Jakarta, Sunday (12/14/2025).
Yudhi stated that the introduction, education, and guidance on using AI tools to find fish locations and schools in the sea, with AI tools, makes fishermen efficient and effective in locating the presence of fish and schools of fish.
He mentioned that this AI-based tool is capable of detecting the presence of fish up to 300 meters deep in the sea.
This AI technology can also direct the location of fish because it is connected to GPS, which can be installed on the device.
Yudhi added that through the utilization of AI-based fish finders, fishermen can identify the location of fish or schools of fish, thus reducing the time it takes to find fish locations, making it more efficient compared to a trial-and-error approach in determining fish locations.

He explained that there are several stages of activities. Namely, first, the introduction stage. In this stage, the team provides an explanation of the benefits of using the latest technology in fishing gear in the form of explanations and discussions to the fishermen.
Second, the counseling stage, the team explains the functions of the buttons on the AI, which is the fish finder. Third, the demonstration stage, the team shows the fish finder and demonstrates how to use it. And fourth, the trial stage, the team goes to sea with fishermen to try out the device to see if it is effective for fishermen.
In addition to discussing capture, the program also discusses post-capture management and the marketing of marine products through e-commerce and social media, presented by a member of the Community Service Team of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Mercu Buana University Jakarta, Dr. Mochamad Rizki Sadikin. This strategy is expected to maintain the economic value of fish while expanding the market.
Rizki explained that the program also emphasizes sustainability and product diversification. The use of more effective technology helps reduce pollution from fuel.
While the development of high value-added products, such as frozen food and fish-based snacks, drives local economic growth.
“Community involvement in environmental conservation programs is also being pursued to maintain the sustainability of marine resources in Muara Gembong,” said Rizki.
He stated that, based on interviews with user fishermen, their catch increased by up to 30 percent after using fish finders, and after using them for more than two months, the income of fishermen using fish finders increased.
