Local BNP Leader Fatally Shot in Jashore
Jashore, Bangladesh – January 4 – A prominent local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was tragically killed in a shooting incident on Saturday evening in Jashore town. The victim, identified as Alamgir Hossain, 54, was reportedly returning home when unidentified assailants opened fire on him, resulting in his death.
The incident, which sent shockwaves through the local community, took place around 6:45 PM in the Shankarpur area of Jashore. Hossain, a resident of Shankarpur and the joint general secretary of BNP Ward No. 7 under Jashore Municipality, was a well-known figure within the party’s local chapter.
According to his elder brother, Jahangir Hossain, Alamgir was riding his motorcycle from the Battala area of town back to his residence. The attack occurred abruptly in front of Huda Memorial Academy. Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots, and the assailants fled the scene before they could be identified.
Following the shooting, local residents immediately rushed Alamgir Hossain to Jashore General Hospital in an attempt to save his life. However, medical professionals at the hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival. Dr. Bichitra Mallick, from the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed that Hossain was brought in a critical condition, sustaining a severe gunshot wound to the head. The severity of the injury indicated the deliberate and fatal nature of the attack.
Authorities were alerted to the incident shortly after it occurred. Inspector (Operations) Muminul Haque of Jashore Kotwali Police Station stated that law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving information. The police have cordoned off the area and initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and police are actively pursuing all leads to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Investigators are examining the scene for forensic evidence and are interviewing potential witnesses who may have seen or heard anything relevant to the attack. The local BNP leadership has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the incident, calling for a swift and impartial investigation to uncover the truth.
