A Love Story That Captivated the World
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s journey as a family of four began with a blind date in 2016. Their instant connection sparked both controversy and admiration, as media outlets quickly covered every detail of their growing relationship.
Despite the loud opinions from outsiders, their romance continued to flourish. Harry once shared his feelings about Meghan, saying, “I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly — it was a confirmation to me that all the stars were aligned.” He added, “This beautiful woman literally tripped and fell into my life. I fell into her life and the fact that she will be unbelievably good at the job part of it as well is obviously a huge relief to me because she’ll be able to deal with everything else that comes with it.”
A Romantic Proposal and Royal Wedding
On November 4, 2017, Prince Harry proposed to Meghan on an intimate night at their home in Nottingham Cottage. The late Queen Elizabeth approved of the proposal, which was set up with candles and a blanket to resemble Botswana, where they had their third date and where Harry first thought of proposing.
Their wedding took place on May 19, 2018, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. The entire world watched as Meghan walked down the aisle in a simple yet elegant gown from Givenchy, styled with the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara.
The Arrival of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor
The Sussex family captured the attention of royal watchers when they announced the arrival of their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6, 2019. Harry expressed his emotions at the time, saying, “It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. But we’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everybody out there. It’s been amazing, so we just wanted to share this with everybody.”
A Difficult Chapter and New Beginnings
In January 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry announced their departure as senior members of the British royal family. This period was challenging for them, especially as they moved to Montecito in America and celebrated Archie’s first birthday. Tragically, Meghan suffered a pregnancy loss in July 2020. In an op-ed for The New York Times, she described the heartbreaking moment: “After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm. I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”
However, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten Windsor, on June 4, 2021, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. The name Lilibet was chosen to honor her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was selected to honor her late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.
Life with Two Children
Motherhood has become Meghan’s “greatest privilege of my life.” While keeping her children’s identities private, she continues to share intimate family moments on Instagram. From gardening, holidays, and adventures in Disneyland, royal watchers continue to see the kids grow from a distance.
During Easter 2026, the Duchess shared a video of Archie and Lilibet racing for the final Easter egg hidden in their garden. In the carousel, Lilibet was also seen wandering their backyard in bunny ears, holding on tightly to a large white fluffy toy bunny. Another video showed Archie decorating his own Easter egg.
