Climax Coaches Addresses Fatal Crash Involving Former MP Cyrus Jirongo
In the aftermath of a tragic road accident that claimed the life of former Lugari Member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo, Climax Coaches has stepped forward to provide crucial details regarding the bus involved. The incident, which occurred on December 13 along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway, has been the subject of considerable public discussion and online speculation.
Clarifying Passenger Manifests and Onboard Numbers
A key point of contention and discussion has been the number of passengers on the bus. Climax Coaches has stated that a total of 51 individuals were on board the ill-fated vehicle. However, company representatives clarified that only 46 passengers were officially recorded in the passenger manifest.
According to a statement released by the bus company, the vehicle, bearing registration number KCU 576A, departed from its Muthurwa Railways terminal on the night of December 13. The bus made several stops to pick up passengers:
- Kibera: 22 passengers boarded at this initial stop.
- Darajani: An additional 12 passengers joined the bus.
- Kawangware: Approximately past 11 pm, 12 more passengers were picked up.
- Kangemi: The bus proceeded to Kangemi around 11:40 pm.
- Gitaru: Five more passengers boarded before the bus commenced its journey along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway towards Busia.
Daniel Mwangi, the company’s legal representative, explained, “The total number of passengers was 51, but only 46 were captured in the passenger manifest. Along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway, some five more passengers boarded, bringing the total number to 51. Notably, all the 46 passengers picked from our designated offices had proper booking and were therefore captured in the passenger manifest kept in our office records.”
Addressing Timeline and Conspiracy Theories
The timing of the accident also fueled widespread speculation online. Questions were raised as to why a bus traveling from Nairobi to Busia would still be in the Naivasha area at approximately 3 am, considering that most buses undertaking this route typically depart from Nairobi around 10 pm.
Climax Coaches has strongly refuted claims and conspiracy theories circulating on social media suggesting foul play. The company asserts that it has been cooperating fully with all investigative agencies, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
“The company vehemently denies being part of any conspiracy to eliminate the deceased, as is being circulated on social media,” stated Mwangi.
Samuel Mwangi, Climax Coaches’ operations manager, confirmed that the DCI, NTSA, and the police have conducted thorough investigations into the incident. He added that these investigations have concluded that the accident was a normal road traffic incident.

The company also confirmed that an empty bus, en route from Western Kenya, provided assistance to the stranded passengers following the crash. As of the latest reports, none of the passengers who were on board the Climax Coaches bus at the time of the accident have publicly commented on the events of that night. The investigation into the precise cause of the accident continues, with authorities seeking to establish all contributing factors.
