One Charge Dropped in Alan Jones Allegations Case
Prosecutors have withdrawn one of the charges against veteran broadcaster Alan Jones, stemming from allegations of indecent assault. The charge in question involved a man identified as “Complainant K,” who had accused Jones of indecently touching him more than a decade ago. This development comes as the legal proceedings against the 84-year-old former talkback host continue.
Jones was not present in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court when his legal representative, Bryan Wrench, informed the court that one of the 27 charges laid against his client would be dropped. Previously, Jones had pleaded not guilty to 25 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching. Following the prosecution’s decision, the number of indecent assault charges now stands at 24.
Judge Greg Grogin officially confirmed that one count of assault with an act of indecency would be withdrawn and dismissed. This specific charge was the sole allegation made by “Complainant K,” who had claimed that Jones “grabbed (him) on his bottom during an event” in Tamworth between October and November 2013.
The broader investigation into Alan Jones encompasses allegations of abuse against young men spanning two decades, with eight other complainants remaining. These alleged incidents are said to have occurred at various locations, including the iconic Sydney Opera House, a restaurant on Sydney’s lower north shore, and at Jones’ former residences and workplaces.
Origin of the Investigation
The allegations against Jones, who is also a former teacher and Wallabies coach, were brought to light following a significant investigation by The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. This extensive inquiry led to the establishment of Strike Force Bonnefin by police to meticulously examine the claims.
Documents that have previously come to light detail a range of alleged inappropriate conduct. These accusations reportedly include instances of fondling penises, stroking thighs, and squeezing buttocks. Further allegations suggest Jones is accused of pulling a man’s scrotum and engaging in masturbation during one alleged indecent assault.
The alleged criminal acts are said to have taken place across a number of locations associated with Alan Jones. These include his former home in Newtown, his apartment overlooking Sydney Harbour, his rural property at Fitzroy Falls in the Southern Highlands, and in Tamworth in northern New South Wales. Other Sydney-based locations are also cited in the allegations.
Throughout the legal process, Alan Jones has consistently maintained his innocence.
The local court hearing for the remaining charges is currently scheduled for August 2026. This extended timeframe will allow for the comprehensive examination of the evidence and testimonies related to the serious allegations.
