Duggar Couple Faces Serious Charges Amidst Arrests
The Duggar family, known for their large brood and reality television presence, is once again in the spotlight for concerning reasons. Joseph Duggar and his wife, Kendra Duggar, were taken into custody earlier this month, facing a string of serious charges. Their legal troubles have cast a shadow over the family, with reports emerging about the nature of their interactions following their arrests.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2017, are each facing four misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment, alongside four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child. These charges paint a grim picture of the circumstances surrounding their children, raising significant questions about their well-being.
Kendra Duggar’s Brief Detention and Joseph’s Florida Charges
Kendra Duggar was apprehended by Tontitown Police on March 20th. Her time in custody was relatively short, as she was released from the Washington County Detention Facility just 90 minutes after being booked.

Joseph Duggar, however, is facing the same eight misdemeanor counts as his wife in Arkansas. His legal entanglements extend beyond this, as he was taken into custody two days prior to Kendra’s arrest on separate charges stemming from a case in Florida. The former star of “19 Kids and Counting” has been accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl during a beach vacation in 2020. This separate accusation adds a layer of gravity to his current legal situation.
A Jail Call Focused on Lawyers, Not Children
In a revealing jail phone call that took place the evening of Kendra’s release, Joseph Duggar’s priorities appeared to be far from his children. During the nearly five-minute conversation, the TLC alum did not inquire about the well-being of his four children.

Instead, Joseph commenced the call by reminding Kendra that they “can’t talk about a lot” due to the secure nature of the line. His immediate concern was whether she had managed to connect with the Duggar family lawyer, Travis Story.
Separate Legal Representation for the Couple
Kendra confirmed that she had indeed been speaking with Travis Story and had retained him as her attorney. This legal professional is no stranger to the Duggar family, having previously represented Joseph’s brother, Josh Duggar, in his 2021 federal trial.

Joseph expressed his approval of Travis Story, stating, “I wasn’t sure who we settled with, but this guy’s good.” However, Kendra made it clear that they would not be sharing legal representation as they navigate their upcoming trials. “Well it’s not for you, it’s only for me,” she informed him, explaining that she was advised she needed counsel specifically for “the case we’ve got going with the kids and stuff.” This indicates a potential divergence in their legal strategies.
Joseph’s Jail Experience and Parental Concern
Joseph also provided Kendra with an update on his own time in jail. He described spending 23 hours in a “small” cell, having been placed in solitary confinement. He elaborated on his experience, noting, “It’s a pretty small area, but I’ve been able to read a lot actually and resting some, but I’m not sleeping great through the night.” He concluded by expressing his relief at hearing her voice.

The “Counting On” alum was eventually released on March 30th, after serving nine days in jail, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s Heartbreak and Plea for Privacy
A representative for Joseph’s parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, conveyed that they are “heartbroken” over the entire situation. A statement released to the media indicated their current focus: “Right now, they are focused on loving their family and helping Kendra and her children during this difficult time.”
The statement continued with a prayer for the victim and a request for privacy: “They are praying for the victim. They ask for privacy and appreciate the kind words and prayers offered by so many.” The family’s public image has been significantly impacted by these recent events, and they are appealing for understanding and support during what is undoubtedly a challenging period.
