A Story of Art and Life
The convergence of art and life was evident in a recent episode of the Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals. This emotional moment was not only a storyline but also a tribute to Cole Brings Plenty, a talented actor who passed away at the age of 27 in April 2024.
Cole Brings Plenty, a nephew of Mo Brings Plenty, who is part of the Western franchise, was found dead in Kansas. His death came amid a domestic violence investigation where he was named as a suspect. The tragic event occurred in a rural area, leaving many questions unanswered.
In the latest episode of the CBS series, a memorial scene was featured for a character named Monica, portrayed by Kelsey Asbille. The scene depicted relatives gathering at the Brocken Rock reservation for a memorial service. Attendees included Kayce (played by Luke Grimes), Tate (Brecken Merrill), and their grandfather (Rudy Ramos). Other characters present were Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel) and her team of Marshals: Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means), Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos), and Pete ‘Cal’ Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green).

Arielle Kebbel shared her feelings about filming the funeral scene with People. She described the experience as deeply emotional, noting that it was a way for Mo Brings Plenty to honor his nephew. Kebbel emphasized how the lines between art and life can be blurred, creating a powerful impact.
Kebbel also mentioned plans to commemorate the Brings Plenty family with a fashion statement. She expressed gratitude for the handmade jewelry she would wear in their honor, which brought her to tears. This gesture symbolized her connection to the community and her commitment to raising awareness about Cole’s story.

Mo Brings Plenty recently spoke about the heartbreaking nature of his nephew’s death and the lack of resources dedicated to solving it. He described Cole as more than just a nephew; he was like a son to him. Mo criticized the local authorities for not investing enough effort into finding his nephew after he went missing.

Mo Brings Plenty expressed his frustration with the lack of investigation into Cole’s death. He believed that the authorities did not take the case seriously, stating that they were “hunting” him rather than searching for him. It was only after Mo and a friend rented a helicopter that the Lawrence Police Department became fully involved.

Following Mo Brings Plenty’s comments, both the Lawrence Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office issued statements. The Lawrence Police Department stated that they were willing to release a full report if the family permitted it. They provided a complete presentation of the evidence to the family, including videos, witness statements, and photographs. However, the family chose not to release the facts, and the department complied out of compassion.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough investigation and shared the findings with the family. However, due to a court order obtained by the family to seal the records, they could not provide details of the investigation.
Marshals can be seen Sundays at 8/7c on CBS.
