A British comedian’s antics on a live morning show have sparked a flurry of reactions, ranging from amusement to disbelief, after he appeared to “lose it” on the set of the popular programme. The incident unfolded during a segment of “Saturday Kitchen,” a weekend staple for many viewers in Singapore and beyond, known for its lighthearted atmosphere and celebrity guests.
The segment involved a culinary face-off between two comedians, Ed Gamble and James Acaster. Instead of the show’s usual “heaven or hell” food choices, host Matt Tebbutt presented viewers with two delectable options, each championed by one of the comedians. Gamble advocated for a tapas selection (prepared in three distinct styles), while Acaster put forward his version of Panettone Tiramisu.
As the results of the viewer vote were announced, Acaster’s reaction took everyone by surprise.
Upon learning that his tiramisu had lost out to Gamble’s tapas by a significant margin of 46%, Acaster unleashed a theatrical display of frustration. Witnesses described him letting out a primal scream before dramatically rising from his chair. His actions escalated as he flipped a decorative wreath that adorned the table and then playfully “punched” a polar bear figurine placed behind him. The comedian then turned his attention to the set’s Christmas tree, much to the amusement of Tebbutt, Gamble, and the other guests present.
The incident quickly became a talking point online, with viewers taking to social media to share their opinions.
Some users found Acaster’s behaviour hilarious, praising his comedic timing and commitment to the bit. One user on X (formerly Twitter) declared it a “TV moment of the year.” Another echoed this sentiment, stating that Acaster would “always be famous” because of it. A third commenter jokingly suggested that Acaster’s reaction was the “televisual highlight of 2025.”
However, not everyone was amused. Some viewers found Acaster’s behaviour inappropriate and even uncomfortable. One user described it as “atrocious behaviour,” comparing the comedian unfavourably to a toddler. In his 2024 stand-up show, “Hecklers Welcome,” Acaster explained that he had been suffering from severe jetlag during the “Bake Off” filming, which contributed to his disastrous baking attempt. He elaborated on this experience in an interview, stating that he had a “full-on meltdown” during one day of filming. When asked if he would ever consider participating in “Strictly Come Dancing,” Acaster responded that he wouldn’t, explaining that “Strictly is a bit more stressful than baking for charity,” and he “wouldn’t even get that far. I’d have quit before it was broadcast.”
