The recall was announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which warned that the metal cap on the screw connecting the pan to the handle could detach and “forcefully eject” when heated. This poses a serious risk of burns to users.
New York-based E Mishan & Sons, Inc., the importer of these pans, has received nearly 100 reports of the cap becoming detached and ejecting from the pan. One incident resulted in a consumer suffering bruising and burn injuries. The affected products were sold in a two-piece set, including a 10-inch pan and an 11.5-inch pan. These sets were available at Costco stores and online through the Costco, Walmart, and Amazon websites between August 2021 and February of this year.
Consumers who own these pans are advised to stop using them immediately and return them for a full refund. The CPSC also reminded consumers to be vigilant about other recently recalled products, such as power strips that pose similar risks.
Power Strips Recalled Over Fire Hazards
In a separate recall, the CCCEI Power Strips sold on Amazon were recalled last week due to safety concerns. According to the CPSC, the company behind the recall, China-based retailer Middle Way Electronics, received at least two reports of the product “sparking and melting.” Although no fires or injuries have been reported as of the recall date, the commission issued a warning that the power strips lack “supplementary overcurrent protection.” This can lead to the product catching fire if overloaded.
The CPSC emphasized that the resulting fire could cause serious injury or death from smoke inhalation and burns. As a precaution, consumers are advised to immediately stop using the power strips and contact Middle Way Electronics for a full refund.
