DAP Clarifies Stance on Political Engagements with Bersatu
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia – The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has unequivocally stated that no individual has been granted authority to represent the party in any political discussions or negotiations with Bersatu. National Organising Secretary, Khoo Poay Tiong, issued a clear directive, emphasizing that any such overtures or engagements are strictly personal endeavours and do not reflect the official stance, policy, or direction of the DAP.
This clarification comes in the wake of reports suggesting that certain Bersatu leaders in Selangor have approached a DAP division chairman regarding potential party hopping. Specifically, Najmi Samsudin, a division chairman, was reportedly quoted by Utusan Malaysia, indicating his willingness to facilitate the entry of numerous Selangor Bersatu leaders and members into the DAP. The stated objective behind this purported facilitation was to bolster the DAP’s strength in preparation for the upcoming general election.
However, Khoo Poay Tiong’s statement directly refutes any official endorsement of such initiatives. In a statement released last night, he articulated DAP’s strategic approach to garnering Malay support, emphasizing that this effort will not be predicated on encouraging defections from other political parties.
DAP’s Strategy for Malay Support
The DAP’s long-term strategy for winning the support of the Malay community is rooted in a different philosophy, one that prioritizes organic growth and demonstrable impact. According to Khoo, the party’s focus remains steadfast on achieving its objectives through several key pillars:
- Demonstrating a Proven Track Record: The DAP believes that its past performance in governance and public service speaks volumes. The party intends to highlight its achievements and the tangible benefits delivered to the populace as a primary means of earning trust and support.
- Dedicated Public Service: Continuous and impactful service to the public is central to DAP’s engagement model. The party aims to showcase its commitment to addressing the needs and concerns of all Malaysians, irrespective of race or background, through consistent and effective public service initiatives.
- Upholding Core Principles: The DAP is committed to its foundational principles and ideology. The party intends to win support by clearly articulating and adhering to its values, which include justice, equality, and good governance, thereby appealing to voters who share these aspirations.
Khoo’s statement serves as a crucial reminder to party members and the public alike about the official channels and approved strategies for political engagement. The DAP is committed to building its support base through substantive contributions and ideological alignment, rather than through opportunistic party-switching. This approach underscores the party’s dedication to fostering a political landscape built on conviction and public trust.
The party leadership is keen to ensure that all political activities align with its established policies and long-term vision for Malaysia. Any individual purporting to represent the DAP in unauthorized discussions risks misrepresenting the party and potentially undermining its carefully cultivated relationships and strategies. The emphasis remains on grassroots mobilization, policy advocacy, and consistent delivery of services as the cornerstones of the DAP’s approach to political advancement and electoral success.
