Tragic E-Scooter Collision Claims Young Chef’s Life in Dartford
A devastating incident on Princes Road in Dartford, Kent, has resulted in the untimely death of a 21-year-old chef, Tommy Jarvis. The collision occurred late on Monday evening, around 10:45pm, when Mr. Jarvis, returning home from his shift at Miller & Carter on his electric scooter, was struck by a fire engine en route to an emergency.
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Mr. Jarvis, a former student of Dartford Science and Technology College, was transported to a London hospital with critical injuries, where he sadly succumbed to his wounds.

The loss has sent shockwaves through the community, with heartfelt tributes pouring in from family and friends. An online fundraiser has been established with the aim of collecting £5,000 to help cover the costs of a church service, a testament to the profound impact Mr. Jarvis had on those around him. The online tribute poignantly describes him as “so young with so much life still ahead of him,” and emphasizes his exceptional qualities: “Anyone who knew Tommy knows just how special he was. He was kind, caring, loyal, and loved by so many. There will never, ever be another Tommy like him!”
According to statements shared regarding the circumstances of the accident, Mr. Jarvis was reportedly waiting at a pedestrian crossing for the “green man” signal. It was after receiving this signal and beginning to cross that he was tragically hit by the approaching fire engine.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the fire engine involved in the collision was indeed responding to an emergency call at the time. Ann Millington, the Chief Executive of Kent Fire and Rescue Service, expressed the service’s deep sorrow: “Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident. There is a legal process to follow, and we are fully committed to supporting Kent Police’s investigation, as well as conducting our own internal investigation.”
Kent Police are actively seeking witnesses to the incident. They have appealed to anyone who may have seen the collision itself, or who might have observed the e-scooter rider or the fire engine in the moments leading up to the accident, to come forward.

A spokesperson for Kent Police provided further details: “Kent Police was called to Princes Road at about 10.44pm on Monday, May 25, 2026, where a fire engine was involved in a collision with an e-scooter at the junction with Darenth Road. Officers along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) attended the scene and the rider of the e-scooter, a 21-year-old man, was taken to London hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.”
The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) also confirmed their attendance: “SECAmb were called at approximately 10.45pm yesterday evening to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a scooter on Princes Road in Dartford. Multiple crews attended the scene and assessed and treated the rider of the scooter before being joined by The Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex. The patient was then taken via road to a London hospital for further medical treatment.”
