Alberto del Rio Arrested in Mexico Over Alleged Domestic Violence Incident
Former WWE champion Alberto del Rio, whose real name is Alberto Rodriguez, has reportedly been arrested in Mexico following allegations of domestic violence. According to TMZ, the 48-year-old wrestler was detained by law enforcement in San Luis Potosi after allegedly physically assaulting his wife.
A local report suggested that the victim sustained injuries to her face and arms before calling 911 for assistance. Members of the State Civil Guard arrived at the scene and quickly took Rodriguez into custody. The incident marks another legal trouble for the former WWE star, who has a history of run-ins with law enforcement.
A History of Legal Troubles
This is not the first time Rodriguez has faced legal consequences. In May 2020, he was arrested after being accused of beating and raping a woman, as well as threatening her child. He was booked into Bexar County jail and charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm. He was later released on $50,000 bail.
Following further investigation, Rodriguez was indicted by a grand jury and formally charged with aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault. However, his trial was delayed multiple times, and eventually, the charges were dropped in December 2021.

A Career Spanning Multiple Wrestling Promotions
Rodriguez first signed with the WWE in 2009 and made his debut on the main roster the following year. During his time with the promotion, he won two championships. His career reached new heights in 2011 when he became the only professional wrestler to win both the Royal Rumble and the Money in the Bank ladder match in the same calendar year.
He left the WWE in 2014 but continued to compete in various smaller wrestling promotions. Under the name Alberto El Patrón, he remained on the WWE’s main roster from 2010 to 2014, facing notable wrestlers such as John Cena, Batista, and Roman Reigns.
Rodriguez returned for a second stint with the WWE from 2015 to 2016 and also wrestled for companies like Impact Wrestling, World Wrestling Council, Ring of Honor, and Lucha Underground.
A Diverse Athletic Background
Beyond wrestling, Rodriguez had a career in mixed martial arts (MMA). He fought under the Combate Americas promotion and recorded a record of 9 wins and 6 losses.
His journey in sports entertainment has been marked by both success and controversy. From winning major titles in WWE to facing serious legal allegations, Rodriguez’s career has been anything but straightforward.
Current Status and Next Steps
As of now, the details surrounding his latest arrest are still emerging. Authorities have not yet provided a full account of the incident, but it is clear that Rodriguez is once again in the spotlight for reasons far removed from his athletic achievements.
The case is expected to be investigated thoroughly, and any further developments will likely be reported in the coming days.
