Tragic Crash Claims Young Life in Melbourne’s South-West
A devastating incident on Friday morning in Melbourne’s south-west has resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy and serious injuries to another, following a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. Victoria Police have now charged a teenage boy in connection with the fatal crash.
The incident unfolded around midnight on Derrimut Road in Hoppers Crossing. Authorities report that a stolen grey Skoda was allegedly pursuing a Toyota sedan. Police are investigating the possibility that the pursuit was an attempted carjacking.
The situation escalated dramatically when the Skoda allegedly collided with the rear of the Toyota, causing the stolen vehicle to crash and roll multiple times. It is believed that seven teenagers were inside the Skoda at the time of the collision. Investigations indicate the Skoda had been stolen from Maidstone earlier in the week.
Tragically, a 15-year-old boy, who was ejected from the Skoda during the crash, died at the scene. Emergency services were called, but sadly, he could not be saved.
Ongoing Investigation and Injuries
A 16-year-old girl, also a passenger in the Skoda, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in hospital. Her condition is being closely monitored.
Further complicating the investigation, a 14-year-old boy who was in the Skoda later presented himself at a nearby hospital. He has since been arrested and remanded in custody on charges entirely unrelated to the fatal crash.
Another passenger, a 16-year-old girl, was apprehended by detectives, interviewed, and subsequently released pending further inquiries.
Search for Additional Passengers
Police are actively searching for two other individuals who were believed to be passengers in the Skoda. Investigators suspect these individuals may have fled the scene of the crash before authorities arrived. The public is urged to come forward with any information regarding their whereabouts.
