Inqilab Moncho Demands Swift Action in Spokesperson’s Murder, Plans Protests
Dhaka – Inqilab Moncho has intensified its call for justice following the tragic murder of its spokesperson, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. The platform has announced a series of protest actions, including a rally scheduled for Monday afternoon, to demand the immediate arrest of all individuals implicated in the killing.
The protest rally is slated to commence at 3:00 PM on Monday. Participants will gather at Shaheed Hadi Chattar in Shahbagh and proceed with a march towards Shaheed Minar. This demonstration is a direct response to the unresolved murder of their prominent member, who was fatally shot on December 12.
Inqilab Moncho has voiced significant dissatisfaction with the government’s response thus far, stating that none of its core demands have been met. In a recent statement, the platform expressed particular disappointment regarding the absence of key officials at a scheduled press conference. Specifically, they noted the lack of attendance from the Home Affairs Adviser and Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, who holds the status of State Minister and serves as the Special Assistant to the Interim Government. This perceived lack of high-level engagement has fueled the group’s frustration.
The organization has further alleged that individuals described as “Hasina’s agents” operating within civil and military intelligence agencies have yet to be apprehended. This accusation suggests a belief that political influence may be hindering the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the murder.
Further compounding their grievances, Inqilab Moncho has criticized what they perceive as an attempt by authorities to minimize the gravity of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi’s death. They pointed to a press conference reportedly led by an Additional Inspector General of Police as an effort to downplay the incident, implying a lack of seriousness from higher echelons of law enforcement.
In light of these ongoing concerns, Inqilab Moncho has also announced plans for its own press conference. This event, scheduled for Monday at 12:00 PM noon at Shaheed Hadi Chattar in Shahbagh, will serve as a platform to outline the group’s future programs and reiterate their demands to the public and the authorities.
Background of the Incident:
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, who was also a prospective candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head on December 12. The incident occurred while he was traveling in a rickshaw along Culvert Road in the Puratan Paltan area of the city.
Following the initial attack, Osman Hadi was airlifted to Singapore for advanced medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries on the night of December 18.
His remains were later flown back to Bangladesh. He was laid to rest on Saturday afternoon, around 3:30 PM, in a poignant ceremony. His grave is situated beside the resting place of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, near the Dhaka University Central Mosque, a location of significant national and cultural importance.
The ongoing protests and statements from Inqilab Moncho underscore the deep-seated anger and demand for accountability within the organization and its supporters. The group’s commitment to pursuing justice for their fallen spokesperson remains unwavering as they escalate their public actions.
