Kaduna State Achieves Milestone of Zero Violent Conflict, Fueling Development Gains
Kaduna State has marked a significant achievement by recording no instances of violent conflict since the beginning of 2023. This milestone, according to state officials, has served as a powerful catalyst, reinforcing and accelerating development across critical sectors including education, agriculture, skills acquisition, and enterprise growth.
The announcement was made during the 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week, held recently in Kaduna. Representing Governor Senator Uba Sani at the event was the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki.
The Kaduna Peace Model: A Home-Grown Solution
Commissioner Maiyaki elaborated that this remarkable feat is a direct testament to the effectiveness of the Kaduna Peace Model. This innovative, home-grown framework is designed to foster stability through a multi-pronged approach that integrates:
- Dialogue: Facilitating open and constructive conversations among diverse communities.
- Community Engagement: Actively involving local populations in peacebuilding initiatives.
- Early-Warning Systems: Proactively identifying potential conflicts before they escalate.
- Intelligence-Led Security: Employing data and information to guide security operations.
- Inclusive Governance: Ensuring all stakeholders have a voice and are represented in decision-making processes.
Governor Uba Sani, in his keynote address delivered by Maiyaki, emphasized that the administration has strategically positioned peace not just as an absence of conflict, but as a fundamental development strategy. He articulated that sustainable social progress and robust economic growth are inextricably linked to a stable environment. “Peace is the foundation of development,” the Governor stated. “By prioritizing prevention, dialogue, and community ownership, Kaduna has created the enabling environment for sustained growth.”
Technological Advancements and Reopened Opportunities
A key component of the Kaduna Peace Model is the deployment of the Conflict Early Warning and Early Response System (CEWERS). This system, bolstered by the support of international development partners, has proven instrumental in the early detection and timely resolution of emerging tensions. This proactive approach has not only prevented escalation but has also significantly bolstered public confidence and investor trust in the state.
The tangible benefits of this improved security landscape are far-reaching. Governor Uba Sani highlighted that enhanced safety and stability have directly led to the reopening of essential services and economic hubs across the state, including:
- Schools
- Health facilities
- Markets
- Farmlands
Tangible Development Gains: Education, Agriculture, and Enterprise
The positive impact of sustained peace is evident in several key areas:
Education: The administration proudly reported the return of over 300,000 out-of-school children to classrooms. Furthermore, tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions have been reduced by a significant 40 percent, making higher education more accessible. Efforts to equip the youth for the modern economy are also underway, with the expansion of technical, vocational, and digital skills programs.
Agriculture: The prevailing peace has revitalized agricultural productivity and improved rural livelihoods. This is attributed to increased budgetary allocations, efficient fertilizer distribution across all local government areas, and strategic development of agro-industrial infrastructure aimed at bolstering food security.
Enterprise Growth and Job Creation: Recognizing the vital link between economic opportunity and social stability, job creation and support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) remain central to the state’s peace-building agenda. Ongoing initiatives in enterprise financing and skills development are actively designed to combat unemployment and reduce social vulnerability.
Media as a Crucial Partner
Governor Uba Sani underscored the indispensable role of the media in the state’s peace and development architecture. He urged journalists to embrace conflict-sensitive reporting, actively counter the spread of misinformation, and to prominently feature stories of reconciliation, progress, and opportunity within Kaduna State.
In recognition of the Governor’s efforts, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, AbdulGafar Alabelewe, presented Governor Uba Sani with a Recognition Award for Exemplary Leadership. This award specifically acknowledged his administration’s unwavering commitment to peacebuilding, inclusive governance, and the promotion of press freedom.
A Blueprint for Regional Stability
The Kaduna State Government has expressed its strong willingness to share its successful peace-driven development framework with other states. The Kaduna Peace Model is being positioned as a practical and replicable blueprint for strengthening stability and accelerating development across the broader Northern Nigeria region. The state believes that by sharing its experiences and strategies, it can contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous future for the entire nation.
