“Married At First Sight” Star Gia Fleur Issues Public Apology for Dinner Party Outburst
A prominent figure from the recent season of “Married At First Sight” has publicly apologised for her conduct at a contentious dinner party, a moment that left viewers dismayed. Gia Fleur, a 35-year-old mother of one, has expressed deep regret for the “vile insults” she directed at fellow participants Alissa Fay and Stella Mickunaite. Her behaviour, alongside co-star Brook Crompton, sparked significant backlash online, with many viewers labelling their actions as bullying.
Initially, Gia had suggested that her aggressive behaviour was influenced by the show’s producers, claiming they manipulated her and her co-star Brook into acting out. She made these assertions during an appearance on a radio show following the broadcast of the episode. However, in a more recent and comprehensive statement shared on Instagram, Gia has taken full responsibility for her actions.
Addressing Absence from “After The Dinner Party”
Gia also used her Instagram post to clarify her sudden withdrawal from the Stan series, “After The Dinner Party.” Despite having travelled to Sydney with the intention of participating, she was hospitalised due to illness.
“I want to address the Stan show and clear up a few things,” Gia wrote. “Last week I was invited to appear and flew to Sydney with every intention of attending. Unfortunately, I was admitted to hospital due to being unwell and wasn’t able to go ahead. I didn’t ‘chicken out’, I simply prioritised my health at the time.”
The hosts of the “After The Dinner Party” show, Jules Lund, Brittany Hockley, and Laura Byrne, had previously explained that Gia had backed out at the last minute after initially agreeing to discuss the dinner party events. While Gia’s initial explanation cited a medical emergency, she has since clarified that she will not be appearing on any behind-the-scenes shows related to the series.
“I’ve since been invited back to comment on others’ behaviour,” she stated. “After reflecting on my own behaviour at the dinner party, I don’t feel it’s appropriate or aligned for me to sit there and critique anyone else. It wouldn’t feel authentic for me to call out other people’s actions as a way of deflecting from my own. What happened was filmed over six months ago. I’ve heard what I heard, I reacted the way I reacted, and I take responsibility for my part in that.”
A Commitment to Personal Growth
Gia emphasised that revisiting the events and the comments made during the experiment is not conducive to her personal well-being.
“Revisiting who said what doesn’t feel healthy for me anymore,” she explained. “I could speak on why I didn’t connect with Alissa, or the things that were said and done to me, but two wrongs don’t make a right.”
She continued to articulate her desire to move away from negativity and focus on self-improvement.
“Engaging in a cycle of dragging one another to deflect from our own behaviour is not something I want to participate in. I’m choosing to focus on growth. On being a better person. On working on myself privately. On being a present and loving mum, and a supportive partner. That’s where my energy is going.”
Direct Apologies to Alissa and Stella
The core of Gia’s statement was a heartfelt and direct apology to Alissa (33) and Stella (32), who bore the brunt of the verbal attacks during the dinner party.
“To Alissa and Stella, I’m genuinely sorry for the way I handled myself that night and throughout the experiment,” Gia expressed. “Regardless of what was said or heard, my delivery and my behaviour was appalling. I apologise for the disgusting language and the way I made you both feel. I’m deeply sorry for the hurt I have caused you both and I wish you both nothing but peace moving forward.”
The Producer Manipulation Claim
This apology comes after Gia’s earlier attempt to attribute her behaviour to production interference. On Thursday morning, during an appearance on “The Fox’s Fifi, Fev and Nick,” Gia suggested that she and Brook were pressured into their antagonistic roles.
“There’s a lot of things that went on in production for me and Brook personally, that maybe is why we were acting as bad as we were,” Gia had stated. “At that Dinner Party, things happened before it that were really hard. We were kind of ‘production puppets’… we did what we were told to do. We really took it up a notch at the Dinner Party… we are really not proud of our behaviour. But no one could tell me to do that now.”
Public Reaction to the Producer Claims
Gia’s suggestion that producers were primarily responsible for her behaviour drew sharp criticism from viewers and former “Married At First Sight” contestants alike. Social media platforms were abuzz with reactions, with many dismissing her claims.
Former participant Jamie Marinos commented, “Spare me, honestly.” Another alum, Domenica Calarco, simply responded with “No no no.”
