At least two individuals have lost their lives in a series of overnight Russian attacks on Ukraine, as reported by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The strikes involved 154 drones launched over the country, with 148 of them being shot down.
In the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, a Russian attack on a residential property resulted in the death of a couple and injuries to their two children, who are 15 and 11 years old, along with four other individuals. This information was shared by regional head Ivan Fedorov on Saturday morning.
The attacks occurred just hours before anticipated peace negotiations between the United States and Ukraine, which were set to take place in Miami. According to Ukrainian state media, this development comes as a significant moment for both nations.
On Thursday, an official delegation from Ukraine departed for the United States, aiming to resume stalled US-brokered talks on ending the conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this move, although the White House has yet to confirm any scheduled meeting.
Ukraine’s armed forces stated that five drones targeted four different locations, while debris fell in seven areas across the country. These incidents highlight the ongoing tension and the impact of the conflict on civilian life.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces shared on Facebook that Ukrainian forces have attacked facilities at the Russian Saratov oil refinery. This refinery is responsible for producing fuel and lubricants used by the Russian military. The attack underscores the strategic efforts by Ukraine to disrupt the supply lines of the opposing side.
According to Russia’s defense ministry, they claim to have shot down 283 Ukrainian drones during the night. However, regional governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported that a Ukrainian strike on a social facility resulted in the deaths of two women and injured one person. He mentioned that “Two people have been killed and another one injured in a Ukrainian attack on the village of Smorodino in the Graivoronsky District,” as stated on Telegram.
