NBC Colleagues Rally Around Savannah Guthrie as Mother Remains Missing Amid Ransom Demands
The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has sent ripples of concern through the broadcasting giant. Savannah was slated to co-host NBC’s coverage of the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, on February 4th. However, she has since withdrawn from her hosting duties to be with her family during this distressing period.
Mike Tirico, a veteran NBC Sports broadcaster who was set to lead the network’s Olympic coverage from Milan, expressed his profound emotional distress upon learning of the situation. Speaking at a Super Bowl press conference in San Francisco, Tirico, who would be heading directly to Italy after the game, admitted to a persistent “pit in the stomach” since the news broke.
“My heart’s breaking – our hearts are breaking,” Tirico stated. “It has been a pit in the stomach in the 36 hours since we found out. Just can’t believe the situation.” He emphasized the deep personal and professional respect he holds for Savannah Guthrie and the Today show team, describing them as “special people.”

“We are just heartbroken and devastated and praying for Savannah and her entire family through this time,” Tirico continued. “This is a time for caring about the people in your family and we are holding Savannah near and dear in our heart. If you do pray, pray for them. They are special people.”
A Mysterious Disappearance and a Desperate Search
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her residence in Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday evening around 9:45 PM. She lives alone in her $1 million home. Her family reported her missing after she failed to attend her scheduled church services on Sunday morning. This sudden absence, out of character for the 84-year-old, immediately raised alarm bells.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has been leading the investigation into her disappearance. The search for Nancy Guthrie took a dramatic and concerning turn on Tuesday, as investigators began to probe the possibility of ransom demands.
Ransom Notes Emerge, Demanding Cryptocurrency
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that they had received a ransom note. This development occurred three days after Nancy Guthrie was allegedly abducted from her home. The emergence of a ransom note has intensified the urgency of the search efforts.
Local television station KOLD in Tucson also reported receiving a ransom note, though it remains unclear if the notes are identical.

TMZ reported that the ransom note, which they were unable to independently verify as originating from the abductors, demanded a substantial sum in Bitcoin for the safe release of the 84-year-old matriarch. The note specified that the cryptocurrency should be transferred to a particular digital wallet address. TMZ stated that they had verified this address as a legitimate Bitcoin address. The message concluded with a stark ultimatum, threatening unspecified consequences if the ransom was not paid by a designated deadline.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to trace the origin of the ransom notes and locate Nancy Guthrie. The focus remains on ensuring her safe return.
