President Tinubu Hails APC Unity, Calls for Inclusivity Ahead of 2026 Osun Governorship Poll
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji on his successful emergence as the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State. This significant development follows the party’s primary election, which took place on Saturday.
In a statement disseminated by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded the Osun State chapter of the APC for demonstrating remarkable unity, maturity, and a profound spirit of reconciliation. These qualities, he noted, not only preceded but also characterized the primary election, which was conducted via an affirmation process.
The President specifically commended the other aspirants who participated in the race for their commendable decision to withdraw their candidacies in favour of Oyebamiji. He interpreted this gesture as a powerful testament to their unwavering party loyalty and a collective dedication to upholding the core ideals and objectives of the APC.
President Tinubu further implored the newly affirmed governorship candidate to embrace magnanimity in his victory. He emphasized the critical need for Oyebamiji to actively engage and reach out to all party leaders and former aspirants. This, the President stressed, is paramount for fostering inclusivity and ensuring cohesion as the party embarks on the crucial next stages of the political process leading up to the election.
“The journey to reclaim Osun State for the progressive fold in the 2026 governorship election has begun,” President Tinubu declared. “I urge all members and leaders of APC in the state to remain focused, united, and resolute. Victory is achievable, and together, we will succeed.”
The President also took a moment to acknowledge the orderly and seamless conduct of the primary election. The proceedings, held in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, were presided over by the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who chaired the election committee. During the election, party delegates unanimously affirmed Oyebamiji’s candidature, underscoring a unified front.
President Tinubu expressed strong confidence that the palpable unity displayed by the party during this internal electoral exercise will significantly bolster its prospects in the upcoming 2026 governorship election. He issued a call to action for all stakeholders within the Osun State APC to maintain this positive momentum and to collaborate diligently towards achieving electoral success. The emphasis on a united and inclusive approach is seen as a strategic imperative for the party to effectively contest and win the governorship seat. The primary election, therefore, serves not just as a selection process but as a vital unifying event that sets the stage for future campaigning efforts.
