Grealish’s Road to Recovery: A Glimpse into the Toffees Winger’s Rehab Journey
Jack Grealish, the dynamic winger currently on loan at Everton from Manchester City, has offered fans an encouraging update on his recovery from a significant foot injury. The 30-year-old underwent surgery approximately four weeks ago to address a stress fracture in his left foot, an injury that unfortunately looks set to sideline him for the remainder of the current season. Despite the setback, Grealish appears to be in good spirits, sharing a detailed look at the early stages of his rehabilitation through a series of candid photos and videos posted on social media.
His latest Instagram “dump” features 12 snapshots from the past month, each illustrating his commitment to returning to peak condition. Grealish captioned the post with a determined message: “working hard to be back better and stronger than ever.”

The visual diary of his recovery reveals a progression in his mobility. Initially, following his operation, Grealish was seen sporting a protective cast. However, his current daily routine involves the use of a specialised protective boot. To aid in resting his injured leg during periods of downtime, he’s also been utilising a knee scooter, as prominently featured in the initial images of his update.
Beyond the visible aids, Grealish’s rehabilitation is a comprehensive effort involving rigorous physical training and recovery methods. The images showcase him diligently working on strengthening his legs in the gym at Finch Farm, the club’s training ground. Complementing these gym sessions, he’s integrated both ice baths and saunas into his recovery protocol, recognised as crucial elements for muscle repair and reducing inflammation.
Adding another layer to his dedication, a video within the post captures Grealish performing pull-ups while still wearing his protective boot, a testament to his commitment to maintaining upper body strength. In a lighter moment, he also shared a picture highlighting his skills beyond the pitch, showcasing his apparent talents as a DJ during his recovery.
The football community has rallied around the sidelined winger. Former Manchester City teammates, including Nathan Ake and Oleksandr Zinchenko, sent their well wishes in the comments section. James Maddison, another player facing a season-ending injury, lauded Grealish’s strong work ethic.
Grealish’s last appearance for Everton was on January 18th, in their narrow 1-0 victory away against his former club, Aston Villa. The initial discomfort he felt in his left calf led him to report to the Toffees’ medical team. Further investigation by a specialist revealed the more serious nature of the injury – a stress fracture.
Following his surgery last month, Grealish expressed his disappointment but also his unwavering resolve. He shared his thoughts: “Didn’t want the season to end like this but that’s football, gutted. Surgery done and now all focus on getting back fit. I know for sure I will come back fitter, stronger and better than before.”
He further articulated the profound impact of the support he has received since joining Everton: “The support I’ve had since coming to this unbelievable club has meant the world to me. The staff, my teammates and especially the fans have been incredible and I absolutely love representing this club.” His message concluded with a promise to his teammates and the club’s supporters: “I’ll be backing the lads all the way and doing everything I can to get back as soon as possible. Thank you again for all the love, it means so much. UTFT.”
This season-ending injury has effectively ended any faint hopes Grealish might have had of being included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Following Grealish’s surgery, Everton manager David Moyes confirmed that the player would likely remain at the club for his rehabilitation, rather than returning to his parent club, Manchester City. The player’s recent social media activity strongly supports this, showing him regularly attending the Toffees’ training ground.
Everton are reportedly keen on securing Grealish on a permanent deal this summer, with speculation suggesting a transfer fee in the region of £50 million would be required to facilitate the move. During his loan spell with the Merseyside club this season, Grealish has made 22 appearances, contributing two goals and six assists to the team’s campaign. His dedication to recovery suggests he’ll be eager to return to the pitch and make an even greater impact.
