Sussexes Confirm Impending Australian Visit: A Royal Return Down Under
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have officially confirmed their upcoming visit to Australia, marking their return to the continent for the first time in over seven years. The couple is slated to arrive in mid-April, embarking on a series of engagements that are described as a mix of private, business, and philanthropic endeavours. While specific details are yet to be unveiled, their confirmation comes hot on the heels of widespread speculation that they would be gracing the shores of Sydney and Melbourne next month.
This anticipated tour raises questions about whether their children, six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet, will accompany them. It remains unclear if the youngest royals will join their parents on their Australian adventure or remain in their Montecito, California, residence.
Given Prince Harry’s established connections, it is highly probable that the Sussexes will engage with Australia’s armed forces and the veteran community. This aspect of their visit would resonate with Harry’s own military background and his ongoing commitment to supporting service members and their families.

However, the Duchess of Sussex may also be set to make waves in Australia’s burgeoning podcasting scene. Reports suggest that Meghan is slated to appear as a guest on the “Her Best Life” podcast. This podcast is co-hosted by Jackie O Henderson, a prominent Australian radio personality, and is part of her “Besties” company. Henderson, who recently made headlines following the unexpected dissolution of “The Kyle and Jackie O Show,” had previously announced her departure from the podcast in February.

Further adding to the buzz, there are whispers that Meghan might also make a special guest appearance at an upcoming “Besties” event. This hypothetical appearance would mirror the engagement of Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who participated in a question-and-answer session with Henderson in Sydney’s Darling Harbour back in 2023. Although no events are currently advertised on the “Besties” website, interested individuals are encouraged to sign up for updates to be among the first to know about any forthcoming announcements.
The Sussexes’ last sojourn to Australia was in 2018, during which they were still active members of the British royal family. At that time, Meghan had recently announced her pregnancy with their first child, Archie. That royal tour was widely hailed as a resounding success for the then-newlyweds, cementing their popularity and connection with the Australian public.
It’s noteworthy that within eighteen months of that triumphant tour, the couple made the momentous decision to step back from their royal duties and relocate to California with their son. Royal historian Tim Ewart offered a perspective to Sky News, suggesting that the Australian tour might have been a pivotal moment, even a catalyst, in Harry and Meghan’s decision to leave the Royal Family. According to Ewart, their experience in Australia did not align with their expectations of receiving greater praise and recognition.
Echoing this sentiment, Prince Harry himself spoke in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. He reflected on how their South Pacific tour, including their time in Australia, significantly altered their trajectory. Harry described the tour as the first occasion where the wider Royal Family witnessed Meghan’s exceptional capabilities in her public role. He recalled how Meghan seamlessly integrated into the family and demonstrated an innate ability to connect with people across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Tonga, making the process appear remarkably effortless. This experience, he suggested, brought back poignant memories for him.
