Nicole Kidman Honours Late Mother on Her Birthday
Hollywood star Nicole Kidman, a beloved Australian actress, recently took to social media to share a deeply personal and touching tribute to her late mother, Janelle Ann Kidman. The poignant post arrived on what would have been Janelle’s birthday, a significant milestone that clearly held immense emotional weight for the actress. Janelle Ann Kidman passed away in September 2024 at the age of 84, leaving a profound void in the lives of her family.
Kidman, 58, who has captivated audiences with her roles in iconic films such as Moulin Rouge! and Eyes Wide Shut, shared a heartfelt message with her millions of followers on March 13th. The accompanying image featured a cherished throwback photograph of a younger Kidman, her signature fiery red hair framing a radiant smile, standing proudly beside her mother.
The caption accompanying the photograph was simple yet profoundly moving: “Remembering my Mumma on her birthday. Always in my heart Mumma.” The post quickly garnered an outpouring of love and support from fans worldwide, who flooded the comments section with messages of sympathy and affection for the star. Among those offering their condolences was Hollywood peer and close friend Reese Witherspoon, who left a tender comment: “Your angel mama <3.”
This touching tribute comes after a period of significant personal loss for Kidman. She has now sadly bid farewell to both her parents. Her father, Antony Kidman, a respected psychologist and academic, passed away in Singapore in September 2014. The loss of her mother, Janelle, in 2024, means that both her parents are now gone.
This is not the first time Kidman has publicly honoured her parents. Last year, on what would have been her mother’s birthday, she shared a similar tribute on Instagram, expressing her deep sense of grief and longing. At that time, she wrote: “Missing Mumma and Papa so much on what would have been her birthday today❤️.”
The past year has undoubtedly been a challenging one for the acclaimed actress. In addition to navigating the grief of losing her parents, reports emerged earlier this year suggesting that Kidman and her husband of 19 years, Kiwi rock star Keith Urban, 58, had finalised their divorce. According to court documents obtained by People, the couple reportedly agreed to waive all rights to child and spousal support. Kidman and Urban exchanged vows in Sydney’s picturesque Manly in 2006, marking the beginning of a nearly two-decade-long union. Their paths first crossed in 2005 at a G’Day LA event, sparking a romance that captivated the public.
Despite these personal challenges, Kidman continues to look towards the future and has recently made headlines for her upcoming involvement in a high-profile event. This week, she reportedly confirmed her attendance at the prestigious 2026 Met Gala, revealing on the Las Culturistas podcast that she will be attending with her model daughter, Sunday Rose.
Kidman expressed her excitement about this upcoming role, stating: “I think it’s the third time I’ve cochaired. To do it now, I’m so, so happy — and my daughter Sunday will be coming.” This announcement highlights a significant moment for the mother-daughter duo, promising a memorable experience at one of the fashion world’s most anticipated events.
