Julia Roberts Makes Surprise Appearance on Comic Relief
Julia Roberts made a surprising appearance during the latest edition of Comic Relief, which took place on Red Nose Day. The annual charity telethon returned with a series of sketches aimed at raising funds for various causes. This year’s event, titled “Take Yourself Funny for Money,” featured a range of celebrities and was hosted at MediaCity in Salford.
The Hollywood actress, 58, appeared in a sketch hosted by Catherine Tate. In the performance, Catherine played her well-known character, foul-mouthed Nan, who announced that she had invited “big stars” to the event. As part of the act, Julia Roberts joined the show, delivering a memorable moment that left the audience delighted.
In a video message, Julia expressed her gratitude for being invited. She said: “Thank you so much, nan, for your kind offer. I would love to appear on Red Nose Day. I’ll be there in a jiffy!”
She was not alone in her appearance, as other A-list celebrities also participated in the event. Among them were Sir Ian McKellen, Bryan Cranston, Samuel L. Jackson, and Gordon Ramsay. Additionally, Vanessa Williams, Rio Ferdinand, Dame Anna Wintour, Jack Whitehall, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Lord Alan Sugar, Olivia Dean, and Daniel Craig also made appearances.
This was not Julia’s first time participating in the charity fundraiser. She had previously joined via video link in 2024, showing her continued support for the cause.
Funds Raised for Important Causes
The money raised through Red Nose Day is directed towards organizations that work to tackle homelessness, poverty, and mental health issues. These efforts extend beyond the UK, supporting communities around the world.
Earlier in the day, Greg James, the Radio 1 Breakfast DJ, celebrated a major milestone in his Comic Relief bike challenge. He managed to raise £2.8 million for the charity just miles away from the finish line in Edinburgh.
Greg, 40, embarked on a 1000km cycling journey over eight days using a tandem bicycle. Along the way, he received support from family and friends, including a surprise visit from Prince William earlier in the week.
On the final day of his challenge, Greg started the day from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders with a total of £2.5 million raised. Just over an hour later, he took a pit stop in North Middleton, Midlothian, just 16 miles from his destination in Edinburgh.
During the break, Greg spoke with radio host Matt Edmonson, who revealed that the total amount raised had increased to £2,823,694.

“2.8 million!! YESSS!” Greg exclaimed, adding, “Wow. We’re really moving! It is stupid now. But that’s fun. Silly things are fun aren’t they? Let’s keep doing this silly thing and let’s get it up to three. Do it for Arthur. Do it for Arthur and his big seat.”
At the beginning of the clip, Greg said, “I’ve asked for a silly total to hand over to Comic Relief at the end of today. What are we on right now? Let’s go.”
“Okay so when we last had a total it was £2.5 million, which is crazy,” Matt responded.
Matt then added, “We’ve only been on air for an hour and eight minutes. So let’s find out what the new total is…”
Greg screamed with joy upon hearing the total of £2.8 million before preparing to complete the route.
