NBA Game Turns Violent as Brawl Erupts Between Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards
An intense on-court brawl erupted during an NBA game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Washington Wizards, resulting in four ejections. The incident occurred less than a minute before halftime on Saturday, marking one of the most chaotic moments of the season.
The initial conflict began between Oklahoma City’s Jaylin Williams and Washington’s Justin Champagnie. As tensions escalated, teammates from both teams rushed to defend their players, intensifying the situation further. Oklahoma City guard Ajay Mitchell became involved, leading to a collision that spilled into the rows of fans along the baseline.
One part of the pile-up landed on a video camera operator positioned along the baseline, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the altercation. Other players involved in the incident included Wizards forward Anthony Gill and Thunder guard Cason Wallace.

Ejections and Reactions from Players
Williams and Champagnie were each assessed two technical fouls, leading to their automatic ejections. Mitchell and Wallace also received single technical fouls, which resulted in their ejections.
Crew Chief John Goble explained the decision to the media, stating that Mitchell and Wallace were ejected for “not acting as peacemakers and escalating the altercation.” His comments sparked reactions from several players, including reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who described Mitchell as “a tough kid, tough as nails.”
“I’ve never seen him like that,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “But at the same time, I’m not really surprised by his reaction. He’s a tough kid, tough as nails. Not only on the court, but off the court as well. He’s as tough as they come, so I knew there’d be no back down when he’s involved in anything.”
Disagreements Over Ejection Decisions
Not all Oklahoma City players agreed with the referee’s decision to hand out an uneven number of ejections. Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein expressed his frustration, calling the outcome “unlucky.”
“Anytime someone, from my point of view, gets punched in the face or hooked in the face, you have to stand up for one another,” Hartenstein said. “I don’t think all three guys should’ve got ejected and only one of them (Wizards) got ejected. At the end of the day, that’s the refs’ job to kinda make sure it doesn’t get to that point. But we just have to trust the refs and kinda go from there.”
Game Results and Player Performances
Despite the on-court chaos, the Thunder managed to secure a victory, winning the game 132-111. Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a standout performance, scoring 40 points. Hartenstein contributed nine points, 20 rebounds, and ten assists, showcasing his versatility on the court.
The incident has sparked discussions about player conduct, referee decisions, and the overall intensity of NBA games. As the league continues to monitor such events, the focus remains on maintaining the integrity of the game while ensuring the safety of players and staff.
