Aspiration to Become a Key Player
For Vaibhav Arora, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer, there is a clear aspiration heading into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The right-arm fast bowler wants to play the role of Jasprit Bumrah for his own team. Vaibhav joined KKR in 2023 and has gradually become a regular member of the squad. The pacer has taken 33 wickets in 27 matches he has represented the Knight Riders in and has an economy rate of 9.63. Although these statistics are respectable for a bowler still in the early stages of his IPL career, Vaibhav has the urge to improve his game more, by the time the next IPL comes around.
All-Phase Impact – The Bumrah Inspiration
Vaibhav made it known in his conversation with The CricHub that there are few players who he looks up to, none more than Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer spoke about the phenomenal spell that Bumrah could spell in any format of the game, and how he looks to emulate that for KKR. Vaibhav told The CricHub:
“Absolutely, Jasprit Bumrah is someone I really look up to. No matter the format, whether it’s with the new ball, in the middle overs, or at the death, he always gives his best for the team and can suddenly change the game with his spell. I admire him a lot and try to become like him. I want to serve my team the way Bumrah serves India.”
Control, calmness and the ability to deliver under pressure are Bumrah’s greatest strengths. Vaibhav looks to inculcate these qualities to establish himself as a match-winner at KKR.
Practice, and Repeat : A Piece of Advice From Bumrah
The young pacer was full of admiration for Bumrah’s disciplined work ethic and the advice he received from him during the IPL season and his tenure as a net bowler with the Indian squad. He mentioned the only piece of advice he received from Bumrah that still sticks with him; it was to consistently practice and repeat his process.
Vaibhav added:
“Whenever I’m around him during the IPL, I make it a point to learn from him. Last year, when I was with the Indian team as a net bowler, Bumrah told me to just keep practising and repeating my process. He said the more you repeat your actions and bowl more deliveries, the better you become and the more confidence you build. That’s something I try to follow in my own game.”
Vaibhav clearly understands that basics and repetition of your process are very important to develop as a pacer and the advice from Bumrah will definitely have a significant impact on his game.
Strong 2025 Season, But Room to Improve
Last IPL season was Vaibhav’s best and he scalped 17 wickets from 12 matches, making him KKR’s joint leading wicket-taker alongside Varun Chakravarthy. However, he recorded an economy rate of 10.11 which shows that although he was picking up wickets, controlling the flow of runs against a rampant opposition was still a work in progress. With KKR not reaching the playoffs, this upcoming season seems even more crucial for Vaibhav.
Big Opportunity in IPL 2026
The pacer will be hoping to step up as KKR kicks off their IPL 2026 campaign against five-time winners Mumbai Indians in their first encounter of the tournament which will be played at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday, March 29. This fixture could be a stern test for the pacer considering the batting depth of Mumbai Indians.
Vaibhav has an opportunity at his hand to showcase his development from the last season and prove his mettle at KKR this time. Vaibhav Arora, with the help of Bumrah’s guidance and his ambition to be a match-winner, will aim to prove himself for KKR in IPL 2026.
