Brazen Daylight Shooting in Craigieburn: Police Release CCTV Footage
Victoria Police are appealing for public assistance following a brazen daylight shooting incident in Melbourne’s outer northern suburbs, releasing disturbing CCTV footage of the event. The incident, which occurred around 1:00 PM on October 24 last year, saw shots fired towards a residential property on Elmwood Place in Craigieburn.
Investigators are particularly keen to identify a black Land Rover seen at the scene and the individual responsible for firing the shots, who appeared to be filming the entire act on his mobile phone. The grainy quality of the available CCTV footage has hampered efforts to identify the vehicle and the offender. Compounding the difficulty, police have been unable to locate any spent bullet casings or projectiles, as the shots appear to have missed the house entirely.

The CCTV footage was only handed over to police in January, some three months after the shooting. This significant delay has unfortunately impacted the ability of officers to locate crucial evidence, such as the bullets themselves. Senior Constable Mitchell Jones, speaking to reporters, emphasised the reckless nature of the act. “But it’s still reckless … someone could have potentially been there,” he stated. “It’s one o’clock (PM) on a Friday, there are plenty of people at their homes, who have gone home, or are staying home during the day; I’d describe it as reckless.”
While the investigation is ongoing, police have confirmed they have “no information to suggest” any link between this shooting and Operation Eclipse, the ongoing police taskforce investigating a series of arson attacks targeting numerous hospitality venues across Melbourne in recent months.
When questioned about the ethnicity of the residents at the targeted address and whether they were “known to police,” Senior Constable Jones deflected, stating, “I’ve spoken to the people at that address, they’ve been fine to talk to me and discuss what’s happened.” He added that the residents were “obviously quite shocked and concerned about something that’s happened towards their house,” but declined to provide further details regarding ages or other personal information, citing the sensitive nature of the incident.
The Incident Unfolds: A Detailed Look
The released CCTV footage provides a chilling account of the events. It shows a black Land Rover pulling up near a set of wheelie bins on Elmwood Place. A male individual, clad in black shoes, black and grey tracksuit pants, a black hoodie, and a balaclava obscuring his face, emerges from the vehicle.
The offender takes a few paces away from the car before raising a firearm in one hand and a mobile phone in the other. In a brazen display, he appears to record himself as he discharges at least three shots in the direction of the house. Following the shooting, the individual swiftly retreats to the driver’s seat of the Land Rover and speeds away from the scene.

Police Appeal for Information
The delay in receiving the CCTV footage highlights the challenges faced by investigators. “A lot of the time when these sorts of things happen we don’t immediately share the footage, but at this stage we’re looking for members of the public to come forward with any information that they might have, so hence why we share the footage,” Senior Constable Jones explained.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has any knowledge of the individuals involved, or can provide any information related to the circumstances to come forward. They understand that some individuals may be hesitant to speak directly with the police. For those who prefer to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers provides a confidential channel to share crucial details.
“If you don’t want to talk to us or don’t feel comfortable talking to police, you’re more than welcome to contact Crime Stoppers,” Senior Constable Jones encouraged. “We’re looking for any information whether that’s people who know who committed this crime or who’s related to it or any of the circumstances.” The hope is that by releasing the footage and appealing to the public, investigators can piece together the events of that afternoon and bring those responsible to justice. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, adding to the urgency of the police appeal.
