A New Era for Kikam Technical Institute

In a significant gesture towards improving education in the Ellembelle constituency, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle and also serving as the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, recently distributed 1,000 pieces of furniture to the Kikam Technical Institute (KIMTECH). This initiative was aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning environment within the institution.

The donation came after the Principal of KIMTECH, Mr Emmanuel Bright Nomah, approached the MP’s office with a plea for assistance due to the severe shortage of furniture in the classrooms. The MP, who made the donation at the school, emphasized that the government is making great efforts to address the issue of inadequate classroom furniture. He stated that the crisis would come to an end within three years, ensuring that all learners have access to proper educational resources.

Mr Armah-Kofi Buah highlighted the unique position of KIMTECH, noting that it is well-endowed with engineering facilities and is recognized as one of the top institutions for technical education in Ghana. As a result, the institute has been designated as a “Certified Energy Commission Centre,” further solidifying its reputation.

Contributions and Future Plans

The MP took the opportunity to reflect on his achievements in the school and pledged to continue addressing the challenges faced by KIMTECH. He encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities available at the institute to pursue their dreams of becoming engineers, electricians, welders, and masons among others.

In addition to the furniture donation, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah promised to work closely with the Minister of Education to secure a new bus for the school. This move is expected to enhance the transportation facilities for students and staff alike.

Mr Emmanuel Bright Nomah, the Principal of KIMTECH, expressed gratitude for the support received from the MP. He mentioned that the institute currently has a student population of 2,800 and has introduced new courses, which necessitate infrastructure expansion and improved facilities. The recent furniture donation marks a new chapter for the institute, contributing to its drive for academic excellence.

Ongoing Projects and Appeals

Mr Nomah also praised the MP’s past interventions, including the water project that resolved the school’s long-standing water crisis. Additionally, the MP constructed the Electronic Block for the oil and gas capacity building project and donated a Toyota Pick-up van to the school.

However, the Principal continues to appeal for more support, including the construction of students’ washrooms, staff accommodation, student beds, a fence wall, asphalting of access roads, and an increase in teaching and non-teaching staff.

Government Initiatives

Mr Joseph Armah Agyekum, District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ellembelle, shared updates on ongoing projects at the institute. These include the GETFUND dormitory block project, a six-unit classroom block, and a new dining hall. He emphasized the government’s belief in the importance of technical and vocational training as a key driver for Ghana’s development.

Nana Etiase II, Chief of Kikam, acknowledged the MP’s significant contributions to KIMTECH, calling his role unmatched. He noted that the institute was established in 1963 with a land size of one mile square, providing ample space for future expansion.

Vision for the Future

Nana Etiase II also appealed to the government to consider converting KIMTECH into a Technical University. This proposal aims to elevate the institute’s status and provide more advanced educational opportunities for students.
