England Recall and Red Card for Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire’s return to the England squad was overshadowed by a costly red card as Manchester United’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League faced a setback following a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Maguire, who had recently celebrated his return from international obscurity, was sent off after committing a foul on Evanilson. This led to Cherries substitute Junior Kroupi scoring an 81st-minute penalty to equalize the match.
United started strongly, with Bruno Fernandes opening the scoring from the spot. A goal from James Hill restored their lead after Ryan Christie had equalized. However, the result left United vulnerable as they now find themselves competing with Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Chelsea for a top-four finish.

The team under head coach Michael Carrick has only dropped points three times in their last ten league matches. In the second half, United felt they were denied a second penalty after a potential foul by Adrien Truffert on Amad Diallo, just before Christie equalized.
Bournemouth extended their unbeaten run to 11 games, securing their fifth consecutive draw of the season and moving up to 10th place in the table.

Since Carrick took over from Ruben Amorim in January, there have been signs of resurgence for United. Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo both returned to the England squad for the first time since September 2024. The team remained unchanged from their 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, while Bournemouth made changes to their lineup, bringing in Alex Jimenez and Amine Adli.

The match began with intense action, as Diallo tested the goalkeeper early on. Rayan had a chance to score but missed, following a counter-attack led by Marcus Tavernier. The game continued with end-to-end action, with Matheus Cunha testing the goalkeeper and Rayan forcing a save from Senne Lammens.
Tavernier also had a shot that went wide, while Diallo’s powerful volley was blocked by Truffert. Diogo Dalot attempted a long-range shot that hit the top of the stand.
Diallo had another chance eight minutes into the match when he crossed from the right, and Fernandes headed the ball towards goal. However, Petrovic saved with his left leg.
Bournemouth had not lost in their previous five meetings with United but fell behind with less than an hour played. After cutting in from the left, Cunha went down theatrically in the box following a shirt pull from Jimenez. Fernandes calmly converted the penalty, sending the ball into the bottom-left corner.
United were frustrated when they were pegged back following two key moments in the 67th minute. They wanted a second penalty when Diallo went down under a challenge from Truffert, but Christie launched a counter-attack that ended with him scoring from inside the 18-yard area.
However, the equalizer lasted only four minutes. Fernandes’ inswinging corner from the left was flicked on by Marcos Senesi and inadvertently diverted home by Hill, under pressure from Maguire.
Momentum quickly shifted again. Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott hit the frame of the goal from distance before his side claimed a point with nine minutes remaining. Referee Stuart Attwell issued a straight red card to Maguire after he impeded Evanilson as he burst into the box. Kroupi then scored the resulting penalty into the bottom-left corner.
