ITB Reimagines Admissions: Introducing Seleksi Siswa Unggul (SSU) for 2026
Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) is set to significantly transform its admissions process for the 2026 academic year, introducing a new pathway named Seleksi Siswa Unggul (SSU). This revamped independent selection aims to broaden opportunities for prospective undergraduate students.
Key Features of Seleksi Siswa Unggul (SSU)
The SSU pathway introduces a dual-track admission system, allowing candidates to be accepted either through a rigorous testing process or based on their exceptional achievements without a formal test.
Admission Tracks:
Merit-Based Admissions (Without Test): This track is designed for students who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in various fields. Eligibility criteria include, but are not limited to:
- Olympiad achievements in Mathematics, Chemistry, or other scientific disciplines.
- Exceptional performance in sports at a national or international level.
- Demonstrated excellence in religious competitions or activities.
- Other recognized high-achieving talents and extracurricular involvements.
Test-Based Admissions: For candidates who do not fall under the merit-based criteria, a comprehensive testing component will be implemented. This will likely include assessments based on academic performance and standardized tests.
To ensure the integrity of the merit-based admissions, ITB will deploy dedicated validation officers. These officials will meticulously review the documentation submitted by prospective students to verify their achievements. In certain cases, an interview may also be conducted to further assess the candidate’s suitability.
Financial Support and Affordability
A significant enhancement within the SSU framework is the integration of a robust scholarship program. ITB is committed to providing financial assistance, or affirmation, to students from underprivileged backgrounds.
Scholarship Opportunities:
- Reduced Tuition Fees (UKT): Eligible students may receive a substantial reduction in their Uang Kuliah Tunggal (UKT), the primary tuition fee.
- Full Scholarship: In some instances, students may be granted a complete scholarship, covering all tuition costs and potentially other associated expenses.
This initiative underscores ITB’s dedication to ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder talented individuals from pursuing higher education at the institution. The SSU pathway is designed to operate without direct institutional subsidies, yet the scholarship program aims to bridge the affordability gap for deserving candidates.
Fee Structure: UKT and IPI
While the SSU offers new admission avenues, the financial structure, specifically the Uang Kuliah Tunggal (UKT) and Iuran Pengembangan Institusi (IPI), will largely mirror that of the existing independent selection.
Uang Kuliah Tunggal (UKT) per Semester:
The UKT for the SSU pathway in 2026 will be structured into seven distinct groups, reflecting the varying costs associated with different academic programs.
- Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA): Fees range from IDR 500,000 to IDR 12,500,000.
- School of Business and Management (SBM): Fees range from IDR 500,000 to IDR 14,500,000.
- Other Faculties and Schools: Fees range from IDR 500,000 to IDR 12,500,000.
Iuran Pengembangan Institusi (IPI):
The IPI, a one-time development fee, will be divided into four categories. This fee can be paid in installments over six semesters.
- Fee Tiers: The IPI amounts are set at IDR 55,000,000, IDR 65,000,000, IDR 75,000,000, and IDR 85,000,000.
- Initial Payment: All candidates will be required to make an initial payment of IDR 25,000,000 for the IPI, regardless of the chosen tier.
Eligibility for Scholarships within SSU
Specific groups of prospective students are particularly encouraged to apply for the SSU, with enhanced opportunities for scholarships.
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
- KIP-K Holders: Students who possess the Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-K) are eligible for scholarship consideration.
- Students from 3T Regions: Candidates graduating from Senior High Schools (SMA) or equivalent institutions located in the outermost, remote, and disadvantaged (3T) areas of Indonesia will have a strong chance of receiving either full or partial scholarships.
The selection process for SSU will be multifaceted, evaluating candidates based on their academic records, Ujian Tulis Berbasis Komputer (UTBK) scores, and a diverse range of talents and achievements. This holistic approach aims to identify individuals with the potential to excel in their chosen fields of study and contribute significantly to society.
Expansion of International Undergraduate Programs (IUP)
In addition to the SSU, ITB is also significantly expanding its International Undergraduate Program (IUP). This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to providing globally-oriented education and fostering international collaboration.
Key Developments in IUP:
- Program Expansion: The number of IUP study programs will surge from the current 8 to an impressive 27 for the 2026 intake.
- English-Medium Instruction: All IUP courses will be delivered entirely in English, preparing students for an international academic and professional environment.
- Global Exposure Opportunities: IUP students will benefit from:
- Opportunities to study abroad at partner universities worldwide.
- Student exchange programs designed to broaden cultural and academic horizons.
- Dual-degree programs in collaboration with leading international higher education institutions.
This comprehensive overhaul of ITB’s admission system, with the introduction of SSU and the expansion of IUP, signifies a strategic move to enhance accessibility, recognize diverse talents, and elevate the global standing of its undergraduate education. The university aims to attract a more diverse and high-caliber cohort of students, equipped to tackle the challenges of the future.
