Jackie O Henderson Takes Legal Action Against ARN Following Contract Termination
Radio personality Jackie O Henderson has initiated legal proceedings against ARN (Australian Radio Network) after her lucrative $100 million contract was terminated earlier this month. The ARN formally announced the termination on March 31 via a statement to the ASX, citing Jackie O’s lodging of “psychological health and safety and bullying complaints” concerning her co-host’s alleged behaviour. These complaints reportedly stemmed from an on-air incident on February 20 and incidents preceding it.
Jackie O is allegedly seeking substantial compensation, with claims pointing to at least $82.25 million. She asserts that her dismissal contravenes the Fair Work Act. The ARN, however, has voiced its opposition to these claims, stating its intention to vigorously defend its position in court.

Kyle Sandilands Also Pursues Legal Challenge Against ARN
Jackie O’s legal move follows that of her long-time co-host, Kyle Sandilands, who also launched a legal challenge against ARN on March 20. This action came just two days after Sandilands rejected his own termination, labelling it “invalid.” According to reports from the Sydney Morning Herald, the initial legal document filed by Sandilands declared that the termination was “unconscionable under the Australian Consumer Law.”
The applicants, including Sandilands, are reportedly seeking court orders for the specific performance of their contracts, the payment of all outstanding amounts due under those contracts up to the time of judgment, and damages. Sandilands made his first court appearance on March 27, expressing a simple desire to “just go back to work.”
Previous media reports have highlighted Sandilands’ strong stance.

Sandilands has also indicated that he has not been in direct contact with Jackie O and has expressed regret for his on-air remarks. He stated that his actions were not significantly different from his typical on-air persona over the past 25 years, even suggesting he was more restrained on this occasion due to concerns for Jackie O’s well-being.
The court heard that Sandilands was seeking immediate reinstatement and was prepared to resume hosting his show as early as March 30. Despite this, ARN’s legal representatives conveyed that the probability of Sandilands returning to KIIS FM was “effectively nil.”
His legal team is expected to argue that his contract termination was “invalid,” asserting he possesses immunity because the “dump button” was not engaged to censor his on-air comments. ARN maintains its disagreement with Sandilands’ claims and plans to contest the termination decision. The legal proceedings are scheduled to return to court on April 24.

The On-Air Dispute That Led to the Fallout
The dramatic turn of events for The Kyle & Jackie O Show reportedly began when Kyle Sandilands made comments about Jackie O being “off with the fairies.” This was allegedly in response to Jackie O’s desire to examine the astrology chart of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor during a segment.
Following Jackie O’s expressed displeasure with his remark, Sandilands reportedly claimed it impacted her ability to perform her job, and that other individuals had also voiced similar concerns. After a period of absence from the airwaves, ARN announced the show’s suspension “effective immediately” on March 3.
In a pointed statement to the media, Sandilands issued an apology to Jackie O, acknowledging their history of resolving past disagreements. He explained his perspective on the situation:
- “Let me tell you what actually happened here. Jackie and I had a blue on air. That’s it. The kind of thing we’ve done a hundred times in 25 years.”
- “And ARN took the situation and decided to try and burn the place down. They sacked Jackie. They suspended me. They wouldn’t even let me pick up the phone to call her or anyone else on the show.”
- “Then — and this is the bit that gets me — once they’d made it impossible for the show to go on, they turn around and say, ‘You didn’t fix it. You’re fired!’”
Sandilands also alleged that during his suspension, which lasted until March 17, he complied with all ARN’s directives. He further claimed that ARN “didn’t want to fix this” situation.
