Jessica Simpson Addresses Long-Running Beauty Rumours
Jessica Simpson has finally put to rest the long-standing myths about her beauty routine that have circulated since 2014. In a recent interview with ELLE magazine, the singer and former pop icon addressed the persistent claims that she spent around $1,000 per week on tanning services during the peak of her career.
The initial rumour started after a TVNZ article suggested that Simpson had a “Million dollar beauty routine” that she followed “back in the day.” The report claimed she spent thousands on various beauty treatments, including eyelash extensions, bust enhancements, and a $230,000 team of hairstylists who were always at her disposal.
In response to these allegations, Simpson dismissed them with a mix of disbelief and humour. “No, $1,000? Gosh. I’d rather have lain out in the sun,” she said. The star also speculated on where these stories might have originated, suggesting that the intense beauty standards she faced while filming the movie Dukes of Hazzard could have played a role.
“I had to be tan and that was a four-month shoot where I was damn near naked the whole time,” she explained. “The only way to be confident then when shooting was to spray it, and do body makeup. But I also didn’t want it to be too orange, so I had to have a base tan. It was all thought out.”
While Simpson admits to having a soft spot for a good tan, she has become increasingly aware of the risks associated with excessive sun exposure. Her approach to skincare has evolved over the years, driven by both aging and health concerns.
“Nowadays, I spray my kids [with sunscreen] when they go down to the park and am always putting it on myself too,” she shared. “I definitely turned it around not just because of ageing, but because there are lots of hazards to it.”
These comments come at a time when Simpson is enjoying a new chapter in her life. She recently made a music comeback and went through a high-profile split from her husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson. Speaking about her experience as a newly-single woman for the first time in a decade, she described feeling “having fun.”
“When you’re newly separated… I feel like younger guys kinda like the confidence of an older women, I’m discovering,” she added, while walking the red carpet at All’s Fair.
