Royal Rumours: King Charles Denies Funding Prince Andrew’s Settlement
Recent reports circulating in the media have alleged that King Charles contributed a significant sum towards the reported $23 million payout made by his brother, Prince Andrew, to his sexual assault accuser, Virginia Giuffre. However, these claims have been vehemently denied.
Initially, a report published on February 11th suggested that King Charles had chipped in approximately $2.8 million towards an undisclosed settlement paid to Ms. Giuffre in 2022. The broader narrative indicated that the remainder of the substantial sum was purportedly loaned to Prince Andrew by his late parents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, along with other members of the Royal family.
However, a subsequent report, quoting a source close to the King, has firmly refuted these allegations. This source stated unequivocally that King Charles never contributed any funds to the settlement. Buckingham Palace has moved swiftly to distance the King from the ongoing and increasingly complex saga, officially denying any involvement in the payout. This settlement followed serious accusations by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged that Prince Andrew had engaged in sexual activity with her on three separate occasions. These alleged encounters occurred after she was reportedly trafficked by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. At the time of these alleged incidents, Ms. Giuffre was reportedly 17 years old, which is below the age of consent in the United Kingdom.
Prince Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing. He has also stated that he does not recall meeting Ms. Giuffre, despite the existence of a widely circulated photograph depicting him alongside her and Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently incarcerated in the United States for her role in facilitating Epstein’s abuse.
Prince Andrew ultimately agreed to pay a substantial civil settlement to Ms. Giuffre after she initiated legal proceedings against him in the United States, accusing him of “sexual assault and battery.”
The Fallout from the Settlement
News of this significant payout had considerable repercussions for Prince Andrew. It led to him relinquishing his military affiliations and royal patronages. This move came three years after he had already stepped back from public duties and announced he would no longer use the styling “His Royal Highness” (HRH) in an official capacity.
This decision followed a now infamous interview with the BBC’s Newsnight program. During this interview, Prince Andrew was intensely questioned about Ms. Giuffre’s allegations and his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
Further details emerged regarding the financial aspects of the settlement. According to initial reports, approximately $13 million of the payout was reportedly provided by the late Queen Elizabeth II as a “loan,” with a further $11 million coming from the estate of his father, Prince Philip. The initial reports also suggested that an additional $2.8 million was contributed by other members of the Royal family, including King Charles, a claim that has since been officially denied.
Royal Repercussions and Family Ties
In a significant development on October 31, 2025, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had commenced a formal process to strip Prince Andrew of his “style, titles and honours.” This action was taken in light of the continuing allegations surrounding his involvement with convicted sex offenders Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. A statement from the Palace confirmed that Prince Andrew would subsequently be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The statement also addressed his residence at Royal Lodge, noting that his lease had, to that point, provided him with legal protection to remain there. However, it was confirmed that formal notice had been served to surrender the lease, and he would be relocating to alternative private accommodation. Prince Andrew’s surname was later adjusted with the addition of a hyphen, a move intended to align with a 1960 declaration by the late Queen regarding the nomenclature of her descendants.

This decision came just two weeks after Prince Andrew had publicly announced his intention to relinquish the Duke of York title, a title he had held since his marriage to Sarah Ferguson in 1986.
Since these events, King Charles has continued to maintain a clear distance from his brother. This distancing has also extended to his former sister-in-law, Sarah Ferguson, who has also found herself entangled in the ongoing scandal.
Recently unearthed emails have shed further light on Sarah Ferguson’s continued association with Jeffrey Epstein. These emails, sent when she was known as the Duchess of York, suggested a close relationship with the convicted sex offender that persisted for years after she claimed to have severed ties with him.

Among the disclosed emails were those indicating that Sarah Ferguson had reportedly taken her daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, to visit Epstein just five days after his release from prison for child sex offences in 2009. At the time of this visit, Epstein was reportedly still under house arrest.
The persistent public and media interest in this unfolding drama has prompted another notable statement from King Charles. In this statement, the King emphasised his “profound concern” regarding the ongoing allegations levelled against his brother and pledged that the Palace would cooperate with police inquiries if requested.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace stated: “The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct. While the specific claims in question are for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor to address, if we are approached by Thames Valley police we stand ready to support them as you would expect.”
