Sydney Mansion of El Jannah Founders Listed for $11 Million Amidst Business Success

The opulent Sydney residence belonging to Andre and Carole Estephan, the entrepreneurial couple behind the hugely successful El Jannah charcoal chicken chain, has once again been placed on the market. This sprawling Dural estate is reportedly seeking offers in the vicinity of $11 million, marking the second attempt by the Estephans to sell the property within the last two years.

Previously listed in March 2024 with an asking price exceeding $15 million, the multi-level mansion boasts an impressive array of features designed for luxurious living. The estate comprises seven generously sized bedrooms and eight well-appointed bathrooms, catering to both family life and grand entertaining. For those with equestrian interests, the property includes dedicated horse stables, while a full-size tennis court offers opportunities for recreation and friendly competition.

This renewed listing follows a significant milestone for the Estephan family, as their renowned El Jannah charcoal chicken business was reportedly acquired for a staggering $1 billion by a New York-based investment company in November. This landmark sale has propelled the founders into the spotlight once more, highlighting the remarkable growth of their culinary empire.

Nestled within a semi-rural expanse, approximately 31 kilometres from Sydney’s central business district, the property was acquired by the retail visionaries in 2014 for $4.6 million. The expansive 2.11-hectare estate is accessed via a private road and is distinguished by its meticulously terraced and manicured gardens, offering a serene and picturesque environment.

The architectural design of the residence is a sophisticated fusion of classic grandeur and contemporary elegance. Key features include a striking porte-cochère, an impressive entrance designed to accommodate vehicles, and a fluid, open-plan layout that enhances the sense of space and light.

Beyond its modern amenities, the home retains a wealth of traditional comforts. It offers four distinct private living areas, an executive study conducive to productivity, a dedicated cinema for immersive entertainment, and a sophisticated billiards room.

Further elevating the property’s appeal is a cavernous rumpus room, spanning over 150 square metres, complete with a fully equipped wet bar and an impressive wine gallery. Additional highlights include an expansive alfresco terrace, perfect for outdoor dining and entertaining, which features a built-in kitchen. The king-size bedrooms are appointed with spacious walk-in wardrobes, and the residence also includes a convenient home office, a tranquil library, and a private gym.

The Rise of El Jannah: From Humble Beginnings to a Fast-Food Juggernaut

The El Jannah success story began in 1998 when Andre and Carole Estephan opened their first store adjacent to a train station in Granville, a suburb in Sydney’s western districts. Over the past 27 years, their family-run enterprise has undergone a meteoric rise, transforming from its modest origins into a formidable force in the fast-food industry. Today, the El Jannah brand proudly operates 48 stores across Australia.

The highly sought-after restaurant empire was reportedly sold for a sum approaching $1 billion following a highly competitive auction process. The acquisition was made by General Atlantic, a prominent private equity firm headquartered in the United States, which successfully outbid other notable contenders such as Goldman Sachs Asset Management and the Melbourne-based buyout firm BGH Capital.

It is understood that the Estephan family will retain a significant equity stake in the business and will continue to play an active role in its operations. Brett Houldin will also continue in his capacity as CEO.

At the time of the sale, El Jannah had established a strong presence with 30 stores operating in New South Wales, 17 in Victoria, and one in the Australian Capital Territory. Since then, the company has continued its expansion, with two new outlets opening in Hawthorn, Melbourne, and Woden, Canberra.

The sheer scale of El Jannah’s operation is remarkable, with an estimated 100,000 chickens processed through its franchise network each week. The company has ambitious plans for further growth, aiming to reach a total of 70 restaurants by July 1, 2026. This strategic expansion signals El Jannah’s aspiration to become a leading household name in the fast-food sector, directly competing with established chicken-centric giants like KFC and Red Rooster.
