Key Injuries Impact Wests Tigers’ Performance
Wests Tigers captain Jarome Luai is facing a significant setback as he is expected to be out of action for several weeks. This comes after the five-eighth was forced off during the team’s 20-16 loss to South Sydney, with his halves partner also in doubt due to an injury sustained in the same match.
During the clash in Gosford, Luai suffered an unexpected injury when teammate Luke Laulilii tackled South Sydney fullback Jye Gray. The momentum from the tackle caused Laulilii to swing around and collide with Luai’s knee. Despite attempting to continue, Luai had to leave the field due to the impact.
Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall confirmed that while the injury is not serious, it will keep Luai out of play for several weeks. “It doesn’t look good,” Marshall said. “He’s going to get scans, obviously, but the medical staff said he’d be out for a little bit. Hopefully, maybe four (weeks). I don’t know, I’m not a doctor.”
Additional Setback for the Team
The injury to Luai was compounded by another issue involving halfback Adam Doueihi, who also limped off in the final stages of the match. Initial assessments suggest hamstring tightness, with further scans planned for Sunday. This double blow has left the Tigers struggling, especially after they were narrowly defeated by South Sydney in an exciting contest.
After trailing by 12 points early on, the Tigers managed to score 14 points in the last three minutes of the first half, including an eight-point try, to take a narrow lead at halftime. However, their second-half performance was lackluster, managing only a penalty goal. Meanwhile, tries from Latrell Mitchell and Alex Johnston secured a win for the Rabbitohs.
