The Vision Behind the Hall of Fame
Oba Haastrup articulated the profound vision behind the Ijesa Hall of Fame, emphasizing its role in celebrating and motivating. “This initiative is designed to honour Ijesas whose investments have yielded significant benefits for the people of Ijesaland,” he stated, “with the aim of motivating younger generations to emulate their accomplishments.”
The Owa Obokun highlighted the deliberate effort to democratize the nomination and selection process, viewing it as a crucial step in consolidating Ijesa unity. He further stressed that integrity and the upholding of the land’s reputation are paramount. Any honouree found to compromise the esteemed reputation of Ijesaland post-induction would be subject to relinquishing their title.
Looking ahead, Oba Haastrup indicated that the number of candidates inducted in subsequent editions will be carefully limited, ensuring that only those who unequivocally meet the stringent criteria are granted this distinguished honour.
Since assuming the throne in December 2024, Oba Haastrup, who previously served as the deputy governor of Osun State, has been a driving force for positive change within his domain. His reign has been marked by a series of proactive initiatives aimed at stimulating the local economy, including a firm stance against land grabbing and the promotion of large-scale mechanized farming.
The establishment of the Ijesa Hall of Fame is seen as another strategic move by the royal father to elevate the profile of Ijesaland on a global stage. It is anticipated to foster greater engagement from indigenes, particularly those residing abroad, encouraging their participation in the affairs and development of their ancestral land. This initiative promises to be a powerful catalyst for progress and a lasting tribute to the enduring spirit of Ijesaland.
