Election Denier Walks Free, Sets Sights on Trump Administration and Continues Conspiracy Claims
Tina Peters, a 70-year-old convicted election denier, has been released from a Colorado correctional facility and has wasted no time in making her political aspirations known. Appearing on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast shortly after her release, Peters declared her intention to seek a role within a potential Donald Trump administration, focusing on prison reform.
Peters was freed from La Vista Correctional Facility in Pueblo on Monday, having served a fraction of her original nine-year sentence for election interference. Her sentence was commuted to four and a half years by Colorado Governor Jared Polis last month, following significant pressure from former President Donald Trump.
Her conviction stemmed from an incident in 2021 when, as the Mesa County clerk, Peters facilitated the unauthorized copying of Dominion Voting Systems equipment in her elections office. An operative linked to MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell was allegedly involved in this operation during a software update.
On Bannon’s program, Peters detailed her struggles with declining health while incarcerated. She described suffering from acid reflux and fluctuating blood sugar levels, attributing these issues to the prison’s diet of high salt and sugar content. She also voiced concerns regarding the use of Suboxone in women’s prisons, asserting that inmates are placed on the medication and subsequently find it difficult to discontinue its use.
“There’s no way to rehabilitate them with the way the prisons are run currently,” Peters stated, highlighting her belief that the current correctional system is failing to provide effective rehabilitation.
However, Peters’ ambitions extend beyond prison reform. She made it unequivocally clear that she has no intention of stepping away from her crusade against election integrity. She pointed to recent and upcoming electoral contests, including the New York City mayoral race and the Virginia gubernatorial election, as evidence to support her claims that Democrats cannot be trusted with the electoral process.
“I know that the Democrats are going to cheat,” Peters asserted, adding, “and no one’s really addressing the problem.” Her perception of “the problem” remains consistent with the very issues that led to her incarceration.
Peters’ release and subsequent public statements underscore the ongoing impact of election conspiracy theories within certain political circles. Her desire to re-enter the political sphere, particularly within a Trump-aligned administration, signals a continued commitment to her long-held beliefs, despite her conviction.
