A Shift in Allegiance
A pro-Kremlin lawyer and propagandist, Ilya Remeslo, who once strongly supported Vladimir Putin, has reportedly been admitted to a psychiatric clinic. This unexpected turn of events has sparked widespread interest and speculation about the internal dynamics within Russia’s leadership.
Remeslo, 42, was known for his unwavering support of Putin and his endorsement of Russia’s illegal invasion into Ukraine. However, this week, he took a drastic step by posting a series of messages on the messaging website Telegram, where he described Putin as a “war criminal, liar, and thief.” He also predicted that a coup would topple him this year.
The Claims Against Putin
In his posts, Remeslo claimed that Putin’s war in Ukraine had turned into an abject failure, with up to two million casualties. He stated, “Vladimir Putin is not a legitimate president,” and called for his resignation and prosecution as a war criminal and a thief. He further argued that Putin was becoming weaker each year, pointing to the current disarray and instability.
He also mentioned that there were clear signs of an approaching collapse of the system. According to Remeslo, Putin’s reluctance to surround himself with worthy rivals was leading to his loss of power. He added that this change would most likely happen this year, in 2026.
Criticism of Kremlin Propaganda
Remeslo criticized the Kremlin propaganda that claims the West is preparing for World War III against Russia. He stated, “No one is calling for war against Russia,” but emphasized that the war was being waged solely for Putin’s ego complexes, resulting in losses for ordinary citizens.
The sudden and fierce nature of his accusations led to disbelief among Kremlin officials. In response, Remeslo posted a video to confirm that these were indeed his words and that he had not been hacked.

Hospital Admission and Concerns
Hours after his post, Remeslo was reportedly admitted to a psychiatric facility in St Petersburg. Friends have reported that they have been unable to reach him at the Skvortsov-Stepanov City Psychiatric Hospital in the city of St. Petersburg.
He was reportedly sent to a ward for patients suffering from “delusions, thought disorders, and incoherent speech.” The hospital, located in Putin’s home city, has a history of being used for “punitive psychiatry” during Soviet times. In recent years, there have been allegations of torture inside the facility.

Implications and Questions
Remeslo’s denunciation of Putin represents the strongest criticism from an insider since the war began. This raises questions about whether figures within Putin’s elite are now turning against him.
In recent weeks, the regime has been blocking mobile internet access in Moscow and on the frontline amid the failing war and looming economic calamity. Security around the Kremlin has also been stepped up.
This incident highlights the growing tensions and uncertainties within Russia’s political landscape. As the situation unfolds, it will be crucial to monitor any developments and their potential impact on the country’s future.
