Sting Splurges on Lavish Italian Bathtub Amidst Legal Battles
Global music icon Sting, renowned for his illustrious career with The Police and a successful solo venture, has reportedly invested a considerable sum in a luxurious marble bathtub for his Italian villa. The former frontman, now 74, is said to have shelled out a staggering £80,000 for the ornate piece, destined for his palatial residence in Sorrento, a picturesque town overlooking the stunning Bay of Naples.
The bathtub itself is described as a work of art, meticulously crafted from marble and adorned with an intricate mosaic. This opulent addition is expected to take pride of place in Sting’s Italian abode, a testament to his appreciation for fine craftsmanship and perhaps a desire to impress his celebrity circle. Rumours suggest that Sting’s bathroom is a hub for social calls, with reports indicating he has even held FaceTime conversations with fellow pop stars, such as Sam Smith, while enjoying the comforts of his bathing space.
This extravagant purchase aligns with Sting’s well-documented commitment to a disciplined and holistic wellness regimen. He is known for his daily yoga practice, adherence to a strict macrobiotic diet, and his public advocacy for tantric sex. These practices reflect a broader philosophy of well-being that seems to permeate his personal life and creative output.
The Sorrento property is not Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler’s, only Italian estate. Their long-standing connection with Italy began in 1997 with the acquisition of “Il Palagio,” a magnificent 900-acre estate dating back to the 16th century, situated in the heart of Tuscany. This sprawling Tuscan haven boasts a serene lake, multiple guest houses offering ample accommodation, a sparkling swimming pool, and a repurposed chapel, now serving as a tranquil meditation space.
Further enhancing the allure of Il Palagio is its own vineyard, which produces a range of organic wines. These vintages are uniquely named after some of Sting’s most iconic songs, including the classic “Message In A Bottle,” adding a personal and artistic touch to the estate’s offerings.

Beyond his Italian properties, Sting also maintains a substantial residence in Wiltshire, England. This impressive £7 million home, often likened to Buckingham Palace in its grandeur, is set within an expansive 800-acre estate. It features a state-of-the-art recording studio, a well-stocked wine cellar, and its own farm, underscoring the scale and diversity of his property portfolio.
However, Sting’s recent headlines have not solely been about his lavish lifestyle. Earlier this year, the musician found himself in legal proceedings at London’s High Court. The court ordered him to pay approximately £600,000 to his former bandmates from The Police. This ruling stemmed from a lawsuit filed by drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers, who sought to recover unpaid streaming royalties.
The core of their legal claim revolved around the interpretation of agreements established during the band’s formation in the late 1970s and continuing until 2016. Copeland and Summers argued they were owed significant “arranger’s fees,” totalling over £1.49 million. Their case hinged on how various financial arrangements were applied, particularly in light of the evolving landscape of music streaming. Sting’s legal representatives contended that a previously agreed-upon arrangement to pay 15 per cent of publishing income to the other band members did not encompass revenue generated from streaming platforms.
Sting has been approached for comment regarding these matters.
