Tiger Woods, the golfing icon, has once again found himself at the centre of a serious car accident. This latest incident, occurring on a Friday, brings back painful memories for his family, particularly his daughter Sam, who once described a previous crash as “one of the scariest moments” of their lives.
A High-Speed Collision and Subsequent Arrest
The 50-year-old golfing legend was reportedly arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after an incident on a residential road in Jupiter Island. Eyewitness accounts suggest Woods was attempting to overtake a truck and trailer at considerable speed when his SUV clipped the rear of the vehicle, leading to his own car flipping onto its side.
After managing to exit the vehicle through the passenger-side window, Woods reportedly refused to provide a urine sample to the attending officers. This refusal led to his arrest on charges of DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He was booked into jail around 3pm, had his mugshot taken, and was subsequently released late that evening, around 11pm.

A History of Road Incidents
This is not the first time Woods has been involved in a significant car accident. In 2021, a similar collision in California resulted in severe injuries, shattering his right leg. He was trapped beneath his vehicle and required multiple surgeries to recover from the extensive damage.
Daughter’s Poignant Reflections Resurface
In the wake of his latest collision and arrest, poignant comments made by his daughter, Sam, regarding the “ultimate low” of the 2021 crash have resurfaced. During her father’s induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022, a then 14-year-old Sam delivered a heartfelt speech.
- “About a year ago, you were stuck in your hospital bed at one of your ultimate lows at one of the scariest moments of your life and ours,” she recounted.
She went on to express the profound relief and admiration felt by the family, stating, “We didn’t know if you’d come home with two legs or not. Now, not only are you being inducted in the Hall of Fame, but you’re standing here, on your own two feet.”

Sam, now 18, continued to praise her father’s resilience and achievements in the sport.
- “This is why you deserve this, because you’re a fighter,” she declared. “You’ve defied the odds every time. Being the first Black and Asian golfer to win a Major, being able to win your fifth Masters after multiple back surgeries, and being able to walk just a few months after your crash.”
The Latest Mugshot and Public Reaction
Following his arrest on Friday, police released Woods’ mugshot to the public late in the evening. The image showed his eyes appearing puffy and bloodshot, a stark contrast to his usual composed public image. Approximately an hour after the mugshot’s release, Woods was bonded out of jail. He was then driven away from the facility, with fans and reporters gathered outside hoping for a glimpse of the golfing superstar.
Photographs captured by a Daily Mail photographer depicted a stony-faced Woods with pursed lips. He briefly glanced out of the passenger side window at the assembled crowd before being whisked away into the night.

Breathalyzer Success, Urine Test Refusal
Upon arriving at the scene of the accident, Woods reportedly passed a breathalyzer test, registering “triple zeros.” However, he subsequently declined to provide a urine sample on two separate occasions – once at the roadside and again at the jail.
Sheriff Budensiek addressed the situation, explaining, “He is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself, so he was careful in what he said and didn’t say. When it came time again for the test, the urine test at the jail, he stopped that.”
The Sheriff further elaborated on the evaluation process. “On scene, we had [Drug Recognition] experts evaluating him and they believed from on scene that he was not impaired with alcohol, but they believe it was some type of medication or drug. And again, at the jail he cooperated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine [test] he wanted no part in.”
He concluded by acknowledging the legal implications: “He has a right to refuse that test. There is a statute that he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.”
Woods now faces the challenge of navigating the legal process and, as he has done throughout his career, demonstrating his characteristic resilience in the face of adversity.
