LifterIndonesia’s Luluk Diana Tri Wijayana redeemed the failure that had haunted her at the World Junior and Youth Championships in Lima, Peru, by winning the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand in the 48-kilogram category, in Chonburi, Saturday.
The athlete from Pacitan, East Java, admitted that the victory was a revenge for his failure when he failed to complete the clean and jerk lift despite targeting gold in that category.
His biggest motivation was revenge. When he was in Peru, his target was gold,snatch-nya yes, but inclean and jerk“It was a total failure. After returning from there, I was down for several weeks,” said Luluk after the match.
Luluk, who participated in the World Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships last May, only managed to secure a gold medal in the snatch category, a direct lift overhead without a pause, but failed in all three attempts of the clean and jerk, a two-stage lift where the weight is first brought to the chest before being driven overhead.
He said the failure left a mark even on the training session in 2025. However, the coach’s support was an important factor in his recovery process.
“But fortunately, the coach always guides us, thankfully the coach is more understanding and more patient,” said the 20-year-old athlete.
In the match at Chon Buri Sports Schools, Luluk recorded a total lift of 184 kilograms, narrowly ahead of Thai lifter Thanyaton with 183 kilograms and Vietnamese lifter Thi Thu Trang Nguyen with 181 kilograms.
Luluk failed on her second attempt at the clean and jerk with a weight of 98 kilograms, before finally succeeding in lifting 100 kilograms on her final attempt, which secured the gold medal.
