Lagos State Safety Commission Forges Strategic Alliances to Enhance Public Safety
The Lagos State Safety Commission has underscored its dedication to fostering robust strategic partnerships, a key initiative aimed at elevating safety awareness and ensuring rigorous compliance throughout the bustling metropolis. This commitment was recently highlighted during a constructive courtesy visit from a delegation representing the Institute of Safety Professionals in Nigeria (ISPN).
The meeting, which focused on the critical exchange of ideas for reinforcing a pervasive safety culture, particularly at the foundational grassroots level, marked a significant step towards collaborative safety advancement.
Strengthening Safety Culture: A Collaborative Imperative
Lanre Mojola, the Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, warmly welcomed the ISPN delegation. He articulated the commission’s proactive stance, encouraging open dialogue and unequivocally assuring the visitors of the commission’s unwavering readiness to collaborate on all fronts to elevate safety standards across Lagos State.
Mojola emphasized that the potential for achieving greater safety milestones is significantly amplified through concerted collaboration. He reiterated that the commission remains perpetually open to forging partnerships that actively promote and enhance safety measures within the state. In a practical suggestion for effective communication, Mojola advised the visiting ISPN team to formally copy the commission in all their future correspondence directed to the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, especially concerning matters that pertain to vital safety initiatives.
He further elaborated on the commission’s strategic priorities for the current year, highlighting market safety and transportation safety as areas of paramount focus. Mojola noted that the commission has already successfully established partnerships with a diverse array of professional bodies and continues to actively seek further collaborative opportunities. “There is no harm in partnering with Lagos State,” Mojola asserted, emphasizing that the state actively welcomes all credible stakeholders committed to advancing safety.
Institute of Safety Professionals’ Vision for Grassroots Safety
Leading the ISPN delegation, Chief Stephen Udezi, the President of the Institute, expressed that the visit was long overdue. He shared his personal eagerness to engage directly with the Lagos State Safety Commission since assuming his leadership role. Chief Udezi extended his gratitude to the commission’s management for extending a welcoming reception to his team and respectfully requested that the Lagos safety leadership convey the institute’s sincere goodwill and respect to the Governor.
A core appeal from Chief Udezi was directed towards the Lagos State Government, urging its support for initiatives designed to extend safety advocacy directly to the grassroots. He stressed the importance of continuous engagement and progressive outreach programs to achieve demonstrably better safety outcomes for all Nigerians, with a particular focus on the residents of Lagos State.
Key Proposals for Enhanced Collaboration
During the productive meeting, Chief Udezi presented several key proposals aimed at formalizing and strengthening the relationship between the ISPN and the Lagos State Safety Commission. Among these, he sought the formal recognition of the commission as a distinguished body within the institute’s network. Furthermore, Udezi requested the Director-General’s invaluable support in facilitating a formal visit to the Governor’s Office. This proposed visit is intended for the institute to officially present Governor Sanwo-Olu with a “Progressive Safety Award,” acknowledging his leadership and commitment to public safety.
The engagement concluded on a highly positive and forward-looking note, with both the Lagos State Safety Commission and the Institute of Safety Professionals in Nigeria exchanging mutual assurances. These commitments are centered on maintaining an ongoing dialogue and fostering sustained collaboration, with the ultimate shared objective of fortifying the safety culture and comprehensively protecting the lives and valuable property across the entirety of Lagos State. The spirit of partnership and shared responsibility was palpable, setting a strong foundation for future joint endeavors in public safety.
