Donal Skehan has shared a heartening update on his family dog, Max, after the beloved canine faced a health scare earlier this month. The news has brought relief to fans and followers who have been keeping track of Max’s journey.
Max, who has been part of Donal’s life since he was a puppy, experienced a sudden decline in health. He was unable to keep food down and showed signs of losing his balance. These symptoms were concerning enough for Donal to rush Max to the vet for immediate care.
After a thorough examination, the veterinary team diagnosed Max with vestibular disease. This condition can cause wobbliness, head tilts, and rapid eye movements. Despite the diagnosis, Donal reassured his followers that Max was on the path to recovery, provided he showed improvement over the next few days.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday morning, Donal shared a touching video of Max enjoying the sunshine during a family walk. He noted that while Max is still wobbly, there have been clear signs of progress.
“Defo improvements and this was the longest walk Max has taken for a while. Still wobbly but much improved!” Donal wrote, highlighting the small victories in Max’s recovery.
Earlier this month, Donal had shared details about Max’s emergency. After taking him to a vet in Raheny, they confirmed the diagnosis of vestibular disease. At the time, Donal described the situation as challenging, noting that Max wasn’t keeping food down and was experiencing loss of balance, along with rapid eye movement and a head tilt.
He also mentioned that there were no major improvements in Max’s condition at that point, but he was receiving medication and the veterinary team believed they had narrowed it down to vestibular disease. Donal expressed gratitude to @raheny_vet for their quick response.
The prognosis for vestibular disease is generally positive, provided the patient shows improvement within the next few days. Donal explained that the condition is typically most severe in the first 48 hours, with noticeable improvement occurring within 72 hours. Most dogs recover fully within two to three weeks, although some may retain minor symptoms such as a persistent head tilt or mild wobbling.
As Max continues his recovery, the support from friends, family, and fans has been invaluable. Donal’s updates have not only kept everyone informed but have also highlighted the resilience of his loyal companion.
