The Cure Guitarist Perry Bamonte Leaves Substantial Estate to Widow
The enduring legacy of The Cure guitarist Perry Bamonte extends beyond his musical contributions, with his passing revealing a significant financial bequest to his wife, Donna Bamonte. Bamonte, who tragically passed away on Christmas Eve last year at the age of 65 following a brief illness, entrusted his entire fortune and personal effects to his devoted spouse.
Married in 2009, Donna Bamonte not only inherits a substantial seven-figure sum but also served as the executor of Perry’s will. The couple resided together in Crediton, near Exeter in Devon. Perry Bamonte, who had no children, meticulously documented his final wishes in a will drafted on May 22, 2024.
The probate document, filed with the High Court of Justice, outlines the impressive financial standing of his estate. The gross value of Perry Bamonte’s assets in the United Kingdom was declared at a considerable £1,983,419. After accounting for deductions and liabilities, the net value of his estate was finalised at £1,444,123, a testament to his successful career and prudent financial management.
His will clearly states his intention to provide for his wife. The document reads: “I give all my personal chattels not otherwise specifically gifted by my will or any codicil free of inheritance tax to Donna absolutely. My trustees shall hold my residuary estate and the income thereof upon trust for Donna absolutely.” This unambiguous language ensures that Donna receives all of Perry’s worldly possessions and the remainder of his estate without any tax burden.

Born on September 3, 1960, Perry Bamonte’s journey with The Cure was a significant chapter in his life. Over a span of 14 years, he graced the stage in over 400 performances with the iconic band, contributing his distinctive guitar work, as well as playing keyboard and six-string bass. His musical contributions were featured on seminal albums such as “Wish,” “Wild Mood Swings,” “Bloodflowers,” “Acoustic Hits,” and “The Cure.” He initially joined the band in a support role from 1984 to 1989 before becoming a full-time member in 1990. In a remarkable return, Perry rejoined The Cure in 2022, participating in another 90 shows, some of which are considered highlights of the band’s extensive history, culminating in a memorable performance in London on November 1, 2024.
Beyond his illustrious music career, Perry Bamonte cultivated a deep passion for other pursuits. He was an avid fly-fisherman, finding solace and enjoyment in the tranquility of the sport. He also possessed a creative flair for drawing, showcasing a different facet of his artistic talent.
Together with his wife Donna, Perry was involved in a unique and heartwarming venture: rehabilitating and retraining racehorses. They operated a “retirement home” for these magnificent animals, providing them with a safe and comfortable haven in their later years. This endeavour highlights their shared love for animals and their commitment to giving back.
The circumstances surrounding Perry Bamonte’s passing, while confirmed by the band as a result of a short illness, initially prompted a police investigation. This was reportedly initiated after a family member expressed concern following something they had been told. However, Donna Bamonte has vehemently dismissed these concerns, calling the investigation “bulls***” and asserting that Perry died solely from terminal bowel cancer.

Donna revealed that Perry was first diagnosed with the aggressive disease in 2020 and received the all-clear in 2021. Tragically, the cancer returned in 2024 and was deemed terminal prior to his death. Speaking to the press, she stated, “His doctors can confirm he was first diagnosed in 2020 and had the all-clear in 2021, but there was a recurrence in 2024. I have had no contact with the police since his death. This is all complete and utter nonsense.” She has expressed her frustration with the unnecessary speculation, emphasizing the clear medical cause of death.
The official confirmation of Perry Bamonte’s death from The Cure’s website described him as a “quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative” individual, a “warm-hearted and vital part of the Cure story.” His journey began in Basildon, Essex, where he was one of five siblings. His enduring impact on music and his personal life have left a lasting impression on those who knew him and his fans worldwide.
