New Chapter for Bernard Tomic and Keely Hannah

Bernard Tomic, the Australian tennis player, and his partner Keely Hannah have welcomed their first child, a daughter named Astara Aurelia. The couple kept their pregnancy private for most of the time, only revealing the news recently.

Hannah shared the joyful announcement on Instagram, posting a message that read: ‘The most beautiful secret we’ve ever kept. Astara Aurelia Tomic 05.04.2026’ along with a white heart emoji. The name Astara has Greek origins and means ‘star’, while Aurelia is a Latin name that translates to ‘golden’ or ‘the golden one’.

Tomic, who is currently ranked 189th in the world, doesn’t often appear on social media. However, Hannah’s Instagram posts show that she stopped sharing updates around 37 weeks ago, which coincides with the time when the couple would have learned about her pregnancy.

In addition to the birth announcement, Hannah also revealed a connection to another celebrity, Jesinta Franklin. She tagged Dr Adriana Olog, a Gold Coast-based obstetrician and maternal medicine specialist, who also assisted in delivering Franklin’s baby son, Bam, last December.

Tomic began dating Hannah in 2022 after ending his relationship with Aussie influencer Vanessa Sierra. The arrival of their daughter comes after a challenging few years for the 33-year-old athlete.

In June 2024, Tomic faced criticism after retiring mid-match at an ATP Challenger event in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was competing against Japan’s Yuta Shimizu when he walked off the court, claiming to have tested positive for Covid earlier that day. According to commentators, Hannah told him he was mistaken, as the test had been taken two weeks prior.

In July of the previous year, questions arose about how Tomic could maintain a jet-set lifestyle despite earning less than $64,000 in prize money over the past 12 months. However, he managed to regain the support of tennis fans by showing resilience and determination. He continues to compete in ATP Challenger events and lower-tier tournaments, aiming to return to the top level of the sport.

‘Tennis has been part of my life since I was seven. My dad pushed me extremely hard, and that’s one of the reasons I got where I am,’ Tomic said. ‘But now that I’m 32, it’s a purpose. Without tennis, I don’t know what I would do. It’s the only thing I’m good at. I’ve been good at it for almost three decades, so it gets me going. I can still play decently.’

‘[I’m] not in my prime like I was… but that’s why I’m challenging myself to get back there one more time. And then (I can) retire happy (and) guilt-free.’

In January this year, Tomic seemed to be on track to qualify for the Australian Open. He won a dominant straight-sets victory against Bolivian star Hugo Dellien in the first round of qualifying. Fans cheered for him during the match, highlighting why he had climbed to No.184 in the world after reaching as low as 835th in 2022.

However, he lost to Britain’s Arthur Fery in the second round of qualifying. Tomic last played in the ATP 500 event in Acapulco, Mexico in February, where he was defeated by Nicolas Mejia with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
