These sophisticated installations, strategically placed across different landscape types, were instrumental in measuring greenhouse gas emissions. Operating at heights ranging from 40 to 48 meters above the forest canopy, these towers provided continuous, high-resolution data on carbon flux, offering crucial insights into the environmental impact of peatland management practices.
Complementing the advanced tower technology, extensive long-term monitoring studies were conducted across hundreds of sites. This comprehensive data collection effort generated a robust evidence base that informed a wide array of operational decisions. From the intricate planning of canal infrastructure, designed to manage water levels and prevent peat fires, to the development and refinement of broader sustainability initiatives, the scientific findings were directly integrated into APRIL’s practical management strategies.

Dr. Agus, a respected member of Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and a long-standing contributor to the IPEWG, joined the SAC in December 2025. His extensive experience in sustainable peatland management and greenhouse gas monitoring is expected to significantly enhance the SAC’s capacity. His presence will bring a vital interdisciplinary perspective to the committee, broadening its scope to encompass the complex social, economic, and ecological dimensions of peatland landscapes, extending beyond APRIL’s direct concessions.
