Kris Srikkanth Criticises Riyan Parag’s Performance in IPL 2026
Former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth has voiced his concerns about the inclusion of Riyan Parag in the Rajasthan Royals (RR) lineup following a recent performance that he described as “casual” during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Parag was dismissed for just 3 runs, which Srikkanth believes highlights a lack of responsibility and maturity from the player.
Despite RR securing a six-wicket victory, driven by Dhruv Jurel’s explosive 81* off 43 balls and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s 78 off 26, Srikkanth expressed disappointment with Parag’s approach to batting. He suggested that Parag’s captaincy is the main reason he remains in the playing XI.
“Riyan Parag is only playing because of his captaincy. He got out carelessly, trying to play in style. Despite playing several seasons, he’s only performed well a few times. His dismissal was due to arrogance. He could have shown more responsibility and worked on getting back to form,” he said during a discussion on his YouTube channel.
Srikkanth highlighted that if Parag had played with more responsibility instead of attempting a “reckless” shot, the Rajasthan Royals would have completed the chase much faster. He praised the performances of Jurel and Sooryavanshi, who delivered impressive knocks that helped the team reach the target.
“Jurel played an effortless knock, yet he matched Sooryavanshi shot for shot. His stroke play was remarkable. Having Jurel at No. 3 is a significant advantage for them. However, they should have wrapped up the match by the 16th over,” he added.
The Rajasthan Royals’ dominant win marked their fourth consecutive victory, while it handed RCB their first loss of the season. Chasing a target of 202, RR were powered by a rapid 78 from Sooryavanshi and an unbeaten 81 from Jurel. Their 108-run partnership guided the team to the target in just 18 overs, with Ravindra Jadeja adding a valuable 24*.
Earlier, RCB posted 201/8, with contributions from Rajat Patidar (63) and a late cameo by Venkatesh Iyer. RCB fell short against RR’s strong batting performance, which showcased the depth and consistency of the team’s lineup.
