KIIS FM Tightens Reins on ‘Woo-Woo’ Topics Post-Sandilands & Henderson Fallout
The airwaves at KIIS FM have taken a decidedly more grounded turn following the dramatic fallout between long-time breakfast hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson. In the wake of a highly publicised on-air spat that reportedly led to Henderson’s $100 million contract being terminated, discussions bordering on the spiritual and esoteric appear to be strictly off-limits.
ARN, the parent company of KIIS FM, confirmed last week that Henderson had informed executives of her inability to continue working with Sandilands, citing his “harsh comments” that left her in tears. This seismic shift in the breakfast radio landscape has evidently prompted a swift and firm response from management, with a clear directive to steer clear of topics deemed “woo-woo.”
This new cautious approach was starkly illustrated on Monday when radio personality Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small, currently filling the KIIS FM breakfast slot, swiftly shut down a seemingly innocuous mention of astrology. When newsreader Brooklyn Ross casually remarked on Mercury being in retrograde, Smallzy didn’t hesitate to interject. “I told you, no astrology. No crystal talk,” he declared, a thinly veiled reference to the very topic that allegedly triggered the explosive argument between Sandilands and Henderson.
The Astrology Spark That Ignited a Radio Firestorm
The two-decade partnership between Sandilands and Henderson, a cornerstone of Australian radio, imploded last month after a heated exchange concerning astrology. The incident reportedly began when Henderson, while discussing Prince Andrew’s son, Prince Louis, decided to read out the young royal’s birth chart. This move apparently triggered Sandilands, who then launched into a scathing critique of Henderson’s perceived “fixation” with astrology, claiming it was negatively impacting her work and making her “unworkable.”
Sandilands’ tirade was unsparing. “It’s affecting other things, like your fixation on this has made you almost unworkable. You’re off with the fairies with this s***t. It’s mental,” he asserted. Henderson, visibly stunned and hurt, responded by stating she was “totally offended” by his comments. Sandilands, however, remained unyielding, retorting, “Well, too bad if you are because that’s the reality of what we’re dealing with here. It’s affecting everything else. You’re too fixated on it.”
The situation escalated further as Sandilands claimed Henderson’s alleged obsession was not only affecting her work but had also been a point of concern raised by KIIS FM staff. Henderson, fighting back tears, defended herself, expressing her hurt and stating she would never speak about him in such a manner. She characterised his remarks as a “total attack” and an accusation that she was not doing her job effectively.

Henderson’s Statement: A Different Narrative Emerges
Following the on-air incident, reports emerged that Henderson had quit the show and walked away from her lucrative 10-year, $100 million contract. However, Henderson broke her silence late last Friday afternoon through a statement issued by her manager, Gemma O’Neill, presenting a significantly different account of events.
Henderson was adamant that she did not quit or resign from the popular KIIS FM breakfast show. “I want to make one important point very clear: I did not quit or resign,” she stated unequivocally. She further asserted that the prevailing “narrative” surrounding the drama did not accurately reflect what transpired.
“I am deeply saddened by the events of the past week and the possibility of the show ending. This has come as a shock to me, as it has to everyone else,” Henderson conveyed, expressing her heartbreak at the unfolding situation. She added, “The current media narrative does not reflect what actually occurred, and it has been truly heartbreaking to see how this has unfolded.”

The statement concluded with a firm declaration of her current course of action: “At this stage, I am unable to say anything further, as I am addressing this through the appropriate legal channels.”
Sandilands Remains Tight-Lipped
The public fallout has also seen Sandilands keeping a low profile. He was first spotted outside his Sydney mansion in Vaucluse on Thursday, having been off-air since the controversy erupted. When approached by 9News and questioned about the future of the show, a simple and succinct response was all that was offered. “I can’t really speak, mate, sorry,” Sandilands stated, leaving the future of the iconic breakfast program and its hosts shrouded in uncertainty.
