A prominent figure within the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement has issued a stark warning to former President Donald Trump, cautioning that his current approach to foreign policy could severely damage the Republican Party’s prospects in future elections. Megyn Kelly, a well-known media personality and host of a SiriusXM radio show, expressed her concerns during a recent interview with Piers Morgan on his YouTube program.
Kelly’s central argument is that Trump’s continued involvement in what she describes as a “disastrous war in Iran” is jeopardising the GOP’s chances in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 presidential contest. She pointed to polling data and political analysis suggesting that the Republicans are increasingly likely to lose control of the House of Representatives, with the Senate also now appearing vulnerable.
Election Landscape: A Bleak Outlook for the GOP
“We’re already assuming we’re going to lose the House on Team GOP,” Kelly stated, reflecting a sentiment shared by many within the party. “But now, more and more political pundits are predicting that the Republicans are going to lose the Senate as well.”
She elaborated on the long-term challenges facing the party, noting that the electoral map becomes even more unfavourable in the years following the midterms. “The map doesn’t get any easier for Republicans two years after these midterms when we go into 2028 with a presidential election and yet another election for House members in some Senate seats,” Kelly explained. “So, all the math is bad. We don’t have the cards to play.”
Trump’s Stance on Iran and Voter Concerns
Donald Trump has previously asserted that his administration initiated military action in Iran to prevent the regime from acquiring nuclear weapons. He has even gone so far as to claim that he “doesn’t care about the midterms” if it means Iran is denied a nuclear warhead.
However, this singular focus on foreign policy appears to be at odds with the concerns of many Republican voters, who are grappling with pressing domestic issues such as the cost-of-living crisis. The disconnect between Trump’s priorities and the everyday struggles of his base could prove detrimental to the party’s electoral success.

Kelly further suggested that Trump’s continued military engagement in Iran could exacerbate existing problems if a strategic withdrawal is not implemented promptly.
“It’s already a quagmire,” she declared. “Yes, it’s only 13 weeks [old] or whatever it is, but it’s already a quagmire because there’s no easy solution left, even if we just pack up our bags and leave, which is what we should do.”
Her comments highlight a growing sentiment that the military intervention, despite its relatively short duration, has become increasingly complex and without a clear path to resolution. This perception of an intractable conflict, coupled with domestic economic pressures, presents a significant challenge for the Republican Party as it looks towards future electoral battles.
