Bangladesh Army Chief Lauds Nepal Army’s Multifaceted Role
Dhaka, Bangladesh – General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh, has lauded the Nepal Army, describing it as a “wall of defence” that safeguards the nation not only against external threats but also plays a crucial role in mitigating the impact of natural disasters. His remarks came during a special event hosted by the Nepalese Embassy in Dhaka to celebrate the 263rd Raising Day of the Nepali Army.
General Zaman expressed his satisfaction with the robust and friendly relations that exist between the armed forces of Bangladesh and Nepal. He underscored the importance of further deepening this collaboration in the years to come, highlighting the mutual benefits of continued partnership and shared understanding.
The programme, held on a Friday evening, provided a platform for dignitaries and representatives from both nations to acknowledge the significant contributions and historical legacy of the Nepal Army.
A Pillar of Bravery and Service
Ghanshyam Bhandari, the Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh, addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the Nepal Army stands as a prime example of bravery, unwavering dedication, and selfless service to the nation. He pointed to the consistent efforts and commitment of the army in upholding the country’s values and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
Ambassador Bhandari further highlighted the increasing momentum of military cooperation between Nepal and Bangladesh. He noted that regular exchanges of personnel, collaborative training initiatives, joint capacity-building efforts, and joint exercises have been instrumental in strengthening the camaraderie and operational synergy between the armed forces of the two friendly nations. These collaborative ventures not only enhance military preparedness but also foster a deeper sense of mutual respect and understanding.
The Ambassador also took the opportunity to remind attendees that the Raising Day commemorates a pivotal moment in Nepal’s history, marking a significant step towards the establishment of a sovereign, unified, and modern nation. This historical context underscores the enduring significance of the Nepal Army’s role in the nation’s journey.
Safeguarding Sovereignty and National Development
Brigadier General Anjan Keshar Khatri, the Military Attache, delivered the welcome remarks, reinforcing the Nepal Army’s critical function in safeguarding the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He detailed the army’s proactive measures and constant vigilance in protecting the country’s borders and national interests.
Beyond its defence duties, Brigadier General Khatri elaborated on the Nepal Army’s extensive contributions to national development initiatives. This includes active participation in infrastructure projects, environmental conservation efforts, and crucially, its indispensable role in responding to and assisting communities affected by natural disasters. Nepal’s geographical vulnerability to seismic activity and other natural calamities makes the army’s disaster response capabilities a vital national asset.
Furthermore, the Military Attache stressed the Nepal Army’s significant global role in promoting peace and security. Its consistent and dedicated participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions across various conflict zones worldwide has earned it international acclaim and recognition for its professionalism and commitment to global stability.
The commemorative event saw a distinguished attendance, including government officials from Bangladesh, ambassadors and heads of mission from various countries, high-ranking officers from the Bangladesh armed forces, defence attaches, prominent figures from the business and civil society sectors, and members of the Nepali community residing in Dhaka. This diverse assembly underscored the broad appreciation for the Nepal Army’s enduring legacy and its continuing relevance on both national and international stages.
