P.V. Sindhu’s Focus on the Asian Games 2026

“The preparation is going well. It is a busy year. We have back-to-back tournaments. So it is important to stay injury-free,” Sindhu said, discussing her plans for the Asian Games.
The 30-year-old athlete remains optimistic despite the loss, as she now turns her focus to the next challenge. Preparing for the Asian Games will involve identifying and addressing her mistakes from the BAC 2026 tournament.

Sindhu reached an all-time career-high ranking of World No. 2 in April 2017 and is the first and only Indian to become a badminton world champion. She is also one of the key contenders for the Asian Games. With heavy competition expected, all the top seeds across Asia are likely to be present at the event.
What Actually Happened at the BAC 2026
Sindhu’s campaign at the BAC this year came to an end in the round of 16, where she lost to Chinese player Wang Zhi Yi, ranked World No. 2, with a score of 18-21, 8-21. This loss was particularly tough for the Indian audience, as Wang Zhiyi proved to be a formidable opponent, especially after her aggressive play in the second game.
Wang Zhiyi was born on 29th April 2000 and is a two-time Asian champion, having won the title in 2022 and 2024. The Chinese player has consistently been in top form and recently reached the World No. 2 rank in November 2024.
Before her exit, Sindhu advanced to the second round by defeating Malaysia’s shuttler Wong Ling Ching in a three-game match. Despite the setback, Sindhu remains resilient and continues to focus on her long-term goals, moving forward with her preparation for the Asian Games, which is this year’s most significant multisport tournament.
